I will be in El Paso for work at the end of April, and want to find the not-to-be-missed Mexican/Tex-Mex/Italian restaurants in the west part of the city. We'll be near the UTEP campus, but we will have a vehicle if one of the best places needs to be driven to. Please suggest local restaurants and not chains that we have elsewhere. Also, suggestions for good frozen margaritas will be welcome! Thanks!

There are some good Juarez restuarants that have opened on this side of the border -on the west side.
Carnitas Queretaro
Taco Tote
Crisostomo

There's also the original Rosa's Cantina:

Chico's Tacos is on the west side. It's legendary but I'm not a fan:

For better dining/ business lunches try Jaxsons - my favorite location is Mesa north of Executive Center

Ardovinos on cincinnati has great gourmet pizza. If you want some upscale and well cooked food go to Dominics on airway.

There isn't any Chicos near UTEP but you should probably try one just because it's one of the most famous if not the most famous restaurant in El Paso. Some people absolutely love it.

I would recommend Casa Jurado for Mexican food - not a chain. If you get away from UTEP there are the Good Coffee restaurants - a little chain, Las Fuentes also a little local chain. You might like Taco Tote - it's also a chain but from Juarez.

Avila's (Mexican( is supposed to be good (only been there once). Lots of folks like Carino's (Sunland Park Drive) or Como's (N. Mesa-near UTEP) for Italian. There is also Cucina Italiana a bit further from UTEP (near Coronado High) which I have heard is really good.

For general food around UTEP, Geske's is good, and many people like Crave.

Chihuas on the freeway is good. And too bad Juarez is destroyed because there were some really nice and totally authentic Mexican restaurants but you couldn't pay me to go there now. Well, maybe a lot of money.
