Politically, Cain has already shot himself in the head. He's dead and doesn't realize it. No savy politician defines an exact plan on the issues this early in a campaign. They keep the answers to issues vague and general at this point. It's only after they garner popular support that they sharpen their focus on particular solutions to the issues of the day. Cain has defined the 999 plan as his economic platform already and he's stuck with it. As soon as people realize the actual ramifications of that plan he will lose his support. He went all in on trip 9s and will get beat with a small straight by Romney.
No senior will vote for him with his 999. It means SSI and medicare will be totally defunded and seniors will immediately be required to lose 9% of their income. Fixed income seniors spend most if not all of their income every month on necessities so they can't just buy less.
As a footnote, Romney will lose in 2012 because the same evangelicals who won the election for G W Bush against Al Gore will not turn out to vote for Romney in 2012.

If the Florida straw poll is any indication seniors indeed will vote for him. Cain will pick up the Perry and Bachmann votes when they drop out.

I don't care for either, but at least with the Fair Tax you would have control over the money you earned and able to make the decision on whether you could afford a purchase or not.
You will never eliminate the IRS unless there is no tax on anyone (individual, small business, corporation, non-profit, government) that's why politicians that say this are blowing smoke up your (not you, personally) butt and even if the individual income tax was a one line return, it would still require employees to collect tax from people who don't pay, answer questions, process tax forms, go after nonfilers, print forms and instructions and answer questions (like what to do if you don't get a W2, where to send it in, what to do if you move, where's my refund?, extensions to file or pay, investigate schemes, etc).

At first I wasn't too keen on the 999 . But than I realized. With a 9% sales tax... you can't avoid it. Illegals, drug dealers, hookers, thieves, pan handlers, etc. will have to pay 9% tax. People that get paid under the table... 9%. Cash tips that aren't reported.... 9%. Businesses that only deal in cash... 9% when they have to buy something. That is going to be a HUGE boost to the coffers.

Guess what guys. We're in debt. Everyone had to pay more to get us out of this problem. Spending cuts alone will not fix the problem. We got to live during the good times, now we need to pay the price and get back on track. Replacing all of Congress and the Senate would be a step in the right direction too.

So I take it you have no problem raising the taxes on those making over 250,000 in Obama's jobs plan?

So you want to raise taxes on Americans earning minimum wage? Those workers certainly didn't get to live during the good times.

So you want to balence the budget on the backs of seniors living on fixed incomes? Once more if you actually believe the bolded part why would you support Herman Cain's total elimination of the captial gains tax and the estate tax which is part of 999.

........and hookers...........don't forget balancing the budget on the backs of hookers, too. Cut the taxes for the wealthy so they can hire more hookers which will then generate more tax revenue.
