No question Wade, I make fun of the flat earth society. When I see some of those folks campaigning for office I just think of how far backwards they might take us. It's so sad to see some of the litmus issues being used by those that highjacked the party.
"I’m starting to think I need to walk it back on my rejection of Jon Huntsman. Because I’m starting to think even he would be more faithful in his conservative convictions than Mitt Romney."
Erickson has his finger on the pulse of the grassroots R's. While I am more often a D, i read redstate to see what the other side is thinking/feeling and today's article by erickson about romney is very interesting.
As I posted earlier in this thread, Huntsman's record should be gobbled up by the R's and he would destroy obama.
There's an element of the party that's been trying to regain control since Bush won in 2000. It's been largely unsuccessful, and a very rough ride.
Every attempt at a real candidate that offers to deal with issues by listening and pragmatic thinking, results in a chorus of RINO and whatever derogatory term you can think of. Think back to the Republican Party of the 60's, 70's, 80's. Ronald Reagan would be a total outcast today.
If this is the party that Republicans really want, it will get smaller, and angrier. If the right wing really wants a candidate they can call their own, that would be Santorum. The majority has to speak up and vote, or it will be another lost election.
