If they were just as qualified they wouldn't need race to be a deciding factor, would they ?

The reality check is that race is rarely a deciding factor, and when it is--it normally works against someone who isn't white.

In a non-racist country they wouldn't but we don't have that now do we.

Remove "race" from all the forms. Race should not be a deciding factor for anything.
The Civil War has been over for 100 years now and the Civil Rights movement won.
The words of MLK are quickly forgotten. AA is not helping minorities IMO but hurting them and causing distrust in their skills.

Not saying that selling pizza has SQUAT to do with governing. But for a reasonably intelligent person (and I can only assume you are that) To deny that an organization (the federal government) that is $15 TRILLION in the HOLE and continues to spend us into oblivion has no similarities to big business is simply calling your own intelligence into question.

Think it over and then get back to me.
Affirmative action allows qualified candidates andopportunity..So, explain to me how Palin and Perry succedded without true intelligence. It's an American myth that success is always predicated on ability.

The government IS NOT a for profit business and the deficit is NOT the only thing a POTUS deals with. They are first and foremost Commander and Chief of the Armed Forces. A President alone can not pass a budget but a President can on a limited basis order troops into conflict. Dubya was a businessman and ran this country into the crapper. Clinton was not and left Dubya with a surplus.

Who cares about your opinion. If it's not helping, why are you concerned with it? The only people that would distrust the skills of a minority would distrust them no matter what, PERIOD.

Everybody isn't qualified for every position and Cain was not qualified to be POTUS.
The issue about affirmative action only has come up with Cain because he's Black. Of course, no one is going to say that Palin and Perry are products of affirmative action since White people don't benefit from affirmative action. That doesn't mean that people have overlooked the fact that they are both woefully unqualified to be President. Both the Left and the Right have attacked Palin and Perry for their lack of knowledge. Palin was attacked especially harshly in the 2008 elections by many on the Right, with some even saying that McCain should dump her for a new running mate.

You hit the nail on the head.By the way do you think Musilm countries who have elected 7 women as leaders was a case of AFFIRMATIVE ACTION? How long do you think it will take us to elect a women as president?Women are the majority in the USA but are not given a shot at being president.

You missed the entire first sentence of my statement "The thing that people are missing is that no one questioned if Cain was a product of affirmative action when he was running a successful business". A "certain segment" of the population wants to assert that a minority was given an unfair advantage to obtain a certain position when they don't succeed at said position. When Cain was successful as a businessman, they were silent. I like to use sports analogies. When there were no black NFL head coaches, people would say they couldn't succeed therefore they didn't merit interviews which they rarely got. After the NFL inacted rules that mandated owners interview qualified black coaches, some were hired, some failed and others went on to win superbowls JUST LIKE WHITE COACHES. Affirmative action is meant to give everyone a fair opportunity. I realize many of those that constantly whine about it are whinning because they are "losing" their position of priviledge..I think that shows more about their ability and character than anything else.

I just don't see how a man who cannot answer basic questions about major events in the world can be so ignorant. A basic news watcher could have answered those questions.

That is what got me thinking about his intelligence.

Was he used as an affirmative action front man in business?
There are many different types of intelligence vs. education.

A brain surgeon can knock out an aneurysm easily but probably can't name the heads of state of 4 Middle Eastern countries. Does this make them stupid?

He's a businessman. Selling pizzas, running restaurants or franchise operations was what he did.

He should've been better informed but Perry also had sizeable gaffes for someone who does hold public office.
