Military Service

Mitt Romney believes that young illegal immigrants who were brought to the United States as children should have the chance to become permanent residents, and eventually citizens, by serving honorably in the United States military.

Similar to the French Foreign Legion? That's a surprisingly forward thinking policy. The idea behind the Foreign Legion is that someone willing to spill blood with the armed forces of their host nation should be considered worthy of joining the same nation.

Rome did something similar.

Well done, Mitt. That will neatly resolve issues of low recruitment in the military and give a door in to citizenship for those who really do have America's best interests at heart.

Considering how important the Legion has been to foreign police action and such, I think that's a very measured response that takes in to consideration a myriad of issues.

I agree with Tempus. They already allow permanent residents to join and apply for citizenship the day they finish basic training.

Do people actually believe Romney the flip flopper is going to keep his campaign promises?

Ha ha ha ha.

That website is just for show.

Not gonna happen, the armed forces are already turning away qualified high school grads and shedding career people without an option to retrain due to overmanning....

Also illegals will never be granted a security clearance which 99% of all jobs in the Navy and Air Force require.

Same for the Army. Unless you are a cook, Infantry I believe, you will need a clearance.

An alternative idea (please don't be harsh on me) .....................

Last I heard, the roads, bridges and other infrastructure in this country needs repair that sadly sometimes looks like we live in a 3rd world country - this is the USA and our home sweet home for goodness sakes!

See where I'm going with this?

Another national service (if there's a way to find $$ to pay these people with similar armed forces type wages and such) with enlistment and all might be an avenue.

Might be a crazy idea, maybe not.

I had a Army friend in Iraq who's job was to watch the Third Country Nationals prepare the chow.
So they wouldn't poison us. That's what she said.
