There really is no alternative to our health care problems today other than a national health care system. There is no saving Medicare...Period. Either it goes bankrupt or you can shift the burden to seniors and have health bills ruin them financially.

So even if RMoney won, he still wouldn't get 60% of the vote and you can bet anything less would die in a filibuster.

If the government steps in as the insurer, there is no problem. This is what you have in European countries, including Canada. Private insurers can then insure what the government doesn't cover, and so you can choose whatever insurance according to your means. But at least, everyone is covered for the most basic needs.

Don't we have that today with Medicare?

That's just it. I thought the liberals wanted medicare for all? Why would they dismantle medicare for seniors in order to get medicare for everybody? That makes zero sense, and it puts middle aged people in complete chaos as far as health care coverage. How about we fix medicare as we know it, and then you can take it from there.

For seniors, but it won't be there if Romney/Ryan are elected.

It isn't. It's only intention is to turn all Medicare, ergo, all HC Ins over to private business so they can get their piece of flesh. Never mind that Medicare increases are significantly less than private Ins, after all, it is private profit that is all important. Costs would be irrelevant, in fact the higher the better, as profit is based on pct over cost.

Why does a discussion about the American medical machine invariably turn to a discussion about older people. The premise that OLD people are just naturally going to get sick and die is a cultural fabrication. There is no reason on earth for an older person, who has taken good care of themselves, eats a good diet and gets exercise to require constant, ongoing medical care. Yes, we all die and there is a chance that we will have a final illness, but being under medical "management" for 10 or 15 or 20 years preceding that event is not a given. In decades past older people were often very active and worked hard well into their 70s and 80s. This mentality that old people always get sick is a grievous lie!

I don't think 'liberals' are proposing this. I thought we were discussing the Ryan plan to give seniors an amount of money to spend on health insurance in lieu of Medicare and what the consequences of this might be.

If you could move away from the labels, we might be able to have a constructive discussion.
