It's too soon to get a valid poll result off of something that happened yesterday so I don't even take this seriously.

Gallup Poll Shows Bump In Approval For Obama After Convention

OBAMA FOR RE-ELECTION
I read the title of this thread & automatically assumed he was riding the white horse again because I knew it couldn't possibly be about his popularity.

If he knew what the hell he was doing, there is no way we shouldnt be much more improved than we are right now. To look at the job numbers today after a repeat of a speech last night, and to trot around giddy and happy, you must be brain dead or have a mental disease.
I'm not happy about the economy (and believe me, we've lived it with my husband being out of work for 18 mos. but thankfully employed now) but I have not heard A SINGLE THING from the Romney camp that makes me thing the situation would any better from them. And given Romney's dealings at Bain, I could see him making the situation much worse. Things have gotten better under Obama--slowly, to be sure--but it's much better than it could have been.

Obama is not a messiah to me, false or otherwise, but I give him credit for doing the best anyone could with the mess he walked into. What is it that you think Romney can or would do to make things better, quicker?

And, post the RNC, I kept looking for that post-convention bounce that presidential candidates typically get. Over the last week, I saw Romney inch up another point or two over Obama, to take a four point lead at Rasmussen. At Gallup, I think they were tied.

Also at Gallup, President Obama's approval/disapproval rating was equal (47%).

I kept checking, every day, expecting Willard's bounce to happen "any minute."

This morning, twelve hours after President Obama's acceptance speech, at Gallup, his approval/disapproval rating is now 52% approval, disapproval 43%. And they have President Obama up three points over Romney.

Over at Rasmussen, Mittens is still leading, but the gap is closing, with Obama now only down by one!

So.......less than a day after the close of the convention, President Obama is showing a definite "bounce" - you know, the "bounce" that Willard didn't get.

Will it continue? I don't know. Will it make a difference come November? Maybe, maybe not.

I just find it interesting.
Where did they conduct this poll, at the Democratic Convention last night...lol?

You summed it up nicely. People who watched the convention, especially Clinton, are figuring it out. Things are not good, but they are better than they were. Romney offered nothing that makes them confident he could or would have done any better. In fact, it sounds to many like the cuts he is proposing will fall hard on people who are already down, while his tax plans will reward those who don't need or deserve reward. Middle class America is realizing that for all his warts, Obama is the better choice for them.

Yea that's a definite bump, we'll have to see how he does in other polling. But that does look good so far. Unfortunately for him, there has never been a lasting convention bump. This puts Romney in a position, however, where he needs to destroy Obama in the debates. And with the way he took down Newt, the rhetorical debate master, in the GOP primary debates shows that he's got it in him. Alternatively, he could perform like his first South Carolina debate. Either way, the DNC was much more successful than the RNC even though it was a complete dog and pony show with little to no substance and very little media criticism like the RNC received. Fox was the only station to report on their homepage about the God and Jerusalem delegate controversy. But it is what it is and the GOP needs to learn to operate in a nation where the media is against them just as Democrats need to operate in a nation that is almost 2-1 conservative over liberal. Democrats are doing better so far. I hope this week was a wake-up call to Republicans to get our game together. Our level of organization and inconsistency of message used to be more common among Democrats. Never in my life have I seen Democrats control the narrative and the national message. With Obama's mediocre approval ratings, a 2-1 conservative nation, and the unpopularity of Obama's signature accomplishment, we should have a comfortable lead. And we don't.

Anyone else find it odd that Rassmussen has Obama at +8 disapprove while Gallup has him at +9 approve. That's quite a significant disparity...
