Obama team tries to lower expectations for debates - DC Breaking Local News Weather Sports FOX 5 WTTG

"While Mitt Romney has done 20 debates in the last year, he has not done one in four years, so there certainly is a challenge in that regard," Jennifer Psaki, Obama's campaign spokeswoman, said of the president on Monday.

In that way, some of the Obama campaign's tactical lowering of expectations is also rooted in the truth. Aides say the structured - and time-limited - nature of the debates isn't a natural fit for Obama, who often is long-winded when answering questions during news conferences or town hall-style meetings.

Obama's campaign purposely has been vague about how he is getting ready for the debates and aides refused to discuss details of his preparations publicly.

Romney, on the other hand, has not hidden that he's been in the midst of intense debate preparation since early September.

"We know that Mitt Romney and his team have seemed to prepare more than any candidate in modern history," Psaki told reporters traveling with Obama in Ohio on Monday.

I have no doubt Willard will pale in comparison to the President during the debates. It'll be Nixon/Kennedy all over again.

If Obama can stand up to Hillary, I'm sure he'll destroy Mittens in a debate sans problem.

Obama will get crushed because he can't debate the truth. His lies will shine brightly!

I think we can be quite confident that President Obama will be anything BUT unprepared for the debate - it would make perfect sense for his campaign spokespersons to understate his readiness - it all helps to lull the competition into a false sense of security. Whether the debating format itself suits him or not I think he will still perform well and make his points robustly.

He has no points to make, truthfully anyway.
