And this is why the "Obama is losing independents, he can't win!" thing is not logical. Since 2008, more people left the Republican party and started calling themselves Independents. But these people's beliefs haven't changed and they still vote Republican, so we see an increase in the percentage of Independents voting Republican. Still, there are now more registered Ds than Rs. So to win, Obama needs to carry as many Democrats as possible and get them to the polls, then snatch enough Independents to put him over the top - a number that does not have to be more than half since there are more Democrats to begin with. That's it. It looks like he's pulling it off in enough states to win, albeit by narrow margins.
I do think this will boil down to turnout however. So the fabled Democratic ground game has to come through big time in the swing states to make the polls happen methinks. Odds are he'll pull it off.
Or just turnout more Dems period. The demographic tide is changing in America. The Republican party can't bank on the David Duke/Jesse Helms/Strom Thurmond vote forever.
Then again, if you live on a mountain in Arkansas, you probably don't realize that a demographic shift is occurring. The Stars and Bars of the Confederacy are probably as prominent as ever.

We won't see Nevada Red again for Decades. It will take the GOP at least that amout of time to rebrand themselves.

Non-hispanic whites make up just 54% of the population now. 67% percent of the State vote comes from the Las Vegas area.
Minority population growth is going to continue to outpace white growth. GOP is done. Scapegoating minorities and immigrants just is not going to work there.

Look at who Harry ran against - Sharron Angle Not much of a contest there, but still
51% of Nevadans disapprove of Reid's performance.
NV is one state where votes that might have gone for Obama,
went to Libertarian/Gary Johnson.

I'm sure that demographic has changed - the housing boom is over, a lot of folks went back
to southern CA, Washington, etc...The Asian population is more stable though than black or Hispanic
in the future of NV.

I don't know, 2011 figures show non-hispanic whites at 53.6%.
