The "Value Voters" (VV) gathering is a joke. A stupid, pointless, meaningless media event of the Don King / Al Sharpton genre. The VV dudes are a bunch of constipated old men who want to keep women and blacks in their place, while committing the Big Lie of claiming to have "values." Racism and sexism are NOT values America should claim for itself. We've been down that road and have tried to lead ourselves out of those deadends. The VV event is a gathering of buffoons who think they belong on the national stage. These idiots belong in a cave. Move over Osama, you got company.

These guys don't even know what side of the street they're on. They claim Hilary Clinton doesn't have the 'experience' to be a good president, saying she never ran a city or state, yadda yadda yadda. So that having come out of their mouths, why did they only give Rudy Giuliani a 1.3% share of their vote? Hell, Rudy is the one WITH the real experience of running a major city, facing a budget that he had to balance, being tough on crime, standing in the wreckage and blood of 9-11 and leading the city out of it, many things these so-called conservatives claim to respect in a candidate. So what's going on here?

Rudy faced the welfare monster at street level, saw the misery of teen pregnancy on low-income people and understands a woman's right to choose made a huge difference in how the lives of these girls turned out, as well as the lives of unwanted & unplanned babies. So, Rudy would keep Roe v Wade but the American Taliban types of the VV brigade want to keep women under their thumb, take us back to the stone age like the Taliban did in Afghanistan.

Rudy faced the crime wave at street level too. He favors common sense gun control. Rudy would not take away the right of any honest person to own a gun. Rudy won't overturn the second amendment, nor do we need to. Rudy wants a sane set of gun control laws that allow law enforcement to operate efficienctly at city-state-national levels, get guns away from criminals and to no longer sell them at wide-open, no background checks arms-bazaars that are gun shows.

Rudy is who the VV ought to love, but they reject him. I'll just reject the crap issued by the VV phonies.

The democrats just like the Rebublican front runners would never have the guts to face the "Value Voters" debates because they asked straight forward questions.

I was very impressed with the questions and those that attended.

Whoa!!, Mike your guy didnt do well we get it, who exactly are these american taliban types? racist, sexist?
"Don King And Al Sharpton want to keep woman and blacks in their place?" I believe the two guys that came in first and second are both former govenors, historically the most experienced for president. Why this would be a surprise to you mike, value voters are social conservatives, pretty much common knowledge Rudy was going to have trouble with them!

Huckabee came out well because he's a former Baptist minister. He went there and preached to the choir of so-called religious leaders, and gee, as if by miracle, he comes out on top by telling them what they wanted to hear. There's no 'victory' here for Huckabee, he did the usual "tell them what they want to hear" crap and they annointed him. Every slimy pol running for office does that - except, maybe, Ron Paul.

The Dems aren't my favorites either, but they won't stoop to go there and kiss the rings of these self-appointed "king makers" when in fact they are a bunch of ninnies who are deluding themselves as to their importance in the election.

It was a media event of the feel-good type, as in "hey, look at us, we're fighting the good fight for God and country." Yeah, right. These dolts are despertately trying to prove they're still relevant, truth is, they got nothing and they know it. They've been had by Bush, whose people refer to the religious right as "useful idiots" and now they're scrambling for airtime to try and look like a solid bloc of voters that can swing an election. That game is over.

Al Sharpton rides into every black enclave when there's been an incident, tells the locals what they want to hear, gets the backslap and gets out of town before the story gets stale. Huckabee did the same, rode into the VV event, told the bible thumpers what they wanted to hear, got the backslap and is outta there, claiming victory. The VV event is bogus, meaningless and self-promotion for both sides. It will be forgotten by Tuesday.

Governors can make decent presidents, but I'm not impressed by any I've seen become President. Carter was a failure. Reagan will get evaluated by history and graded a D+ or a C. Bill Clinton earns at best a C. W Bush rates F, an abject failure. Romney, as Gov of MA, worked hand in hand with the living devil (Ted Kennedy) on a workable solution to health care in MA, but now that Hilary Clinton is proposing the same scheme for the nation, Romney calls it "socialism" to do so. How can that be? Proves to me he is mostly rhetoric, or IMO, an empty vessel riding into town telling "the faithful" what they want to hear (the other side are the 'bad' guys).

I don't get the warm fuzzies from most of those running, on either side. Ron Paul is abou the only GOP guy that makes sense and tells the truth. Hilary Clinton is the only DEM who can beat the GOP. Edwards is just a pretty boy lawyer and virtually no black guy can get elected in this racist country of ours, though Colin Powell might have done it if he'd run in 1992 right after Desert Storm, maybe 1996, but not now, no way.

s/Mike

Mike, eloquently written. And the extreme irony of all this is that whomever wins the "Value Vote" is getting the Kiss of Death - come general election time. The clown currently in office has given most Americans their full of a "Values Driven" Presidency.

Wow, where have you been the last few years? Hillary Clinton is very much a church panderer, as she visited 27 churches on the campaign trail for her senate seat, including 3 on election day. She's also got her famous visit where she adopted southern drawl to pander even further.

Obama is pretty big on pandering as well:

Ron Paul Wins Another GOP Fox Debate - Hannity Denies It - Free Market News Network

The difference is that the left ignores the pandering their candidates do while magnifying and constantly reporting on anything the right does in regard to religion so they can later beat the seperation of church and state drum and slam the GOP for their religion. Double standard. Plain and simple.

No argument. My post did say that every slimy pol running for office tell people what they want to hear. Even McCain, who I liked in 2000, and who in 2000 referred to Falwell, et al, as "agents of intolerance" did a flip flop this year and went to Roanoke to kiss Falwell's ring. Newt Gingrich was out here in CO this past summer pandering to Dobson. All slimy guys now in my eyes.

The DEMs are working with moderate religious leaders and making some progress. I want ALL pols and all governments in this country to maintain a strict separation of church and state, else we are going to look like Beirut, Baghdad, Sadr City or any of those bumfuq places where 'religious' peoples are slaughtering each other in the name of THEIR god or beliefs.

For more on the nonsense that is the VV charade, see:
- (washingtonpost.com)
- Sally Kohn: Whose Values? - Politics on The Huffington Post
- washingtonpost.com - nation, world, technology and Washington area news and headlines

There is a common thread running in all the VV hype, the same names keep popping up, like Dobson, like the Alliance Defense Fund that is funded by Dobson, Robertson, Falwell and the other extreme fundies in the American Taliban. The same issues keep popping up: anti-abortion, anti-gay marriage, etc. The same methodololy keeps being used: fear and 'anti' this & that. The fundies, the NRA, the environmentalists, et al, have used fear-based mass mailing and TV spots to bilk billion$ out of gullible citizens for years. All them, to include the VV people are wolves in sheep's clothing and are to be kept at arms length - like you would snarling dogs. As bily4 so eloquently said above "whomever wins the VV is getting the Kiss of Death come general election time - as the clown currently in office has given Americans their fill of a 'Values Driven' Presidency."
