I decided to put together a list of members of the House and Senate who aren't seeking reelection. Some of these are retiring, others are seeking another office. Many of these (especially in the House) are in safe seats, so them not seeking reelection will likely not mean much for the balance of power, but I figured I would mention them anyway. Others may spawn off new threads. Anyway if anyone sees any I have missed, or once others announce they will not seek reelection (as I'm sure more will do so), feel free to add to it

First in the House- As of now there are 22 members of Congress not seeking reelection, 16 Republicans and 6 Democrats

GOP
1. AL-6 Spencer Bachus - retiring
2. AR-2 Tim Griffin- Retiring
3. AR-4 Tom Cotton- Running for Senate
4. CA-45 John BT Campell III- retiring
5. GA-1 Jack Kingston- Running for Senate
6. GA-10 Paul Broun- Running for Senate
7. GA-11 Phil Gingrey- Running for Senate
8. IA-3 Tom Latham- Retiring
9. LA-6 Bill Cassidy- Running for Senate
10. MN-6 Michelle Bachmann- Retiring
11. MT-AL Steve Danes- Running for Senate
12. NJ-3 John Runyan- Retiring
13. NC-6 Howard Cople- Retiring
14 TX-36 Steve Stockman- Running for Senate
15. VA-10 Frank Wolf- Retiring
16. WV-2 Shelly Moore Capito- Running for Senate

Dems
1. HI-1 Colleen Hannabusa - Running for Senate
2. IA-1 Bruce Baley- Running for Senate
3. ME-2 Mike Michaud- Running for Gov
4. MI-14 Gary Peters- Running for Senate
5. PA-13 Allyson Schwartz- Running for Gov
6. UT-4 Jim Matheson- Retiring

Special Elections-
1. FL-13 Republican Bill Young who previously announced he would not seek reelection passed away in October. A special election will be held on March 11th
2. NC-12- Democrat Melvin Watt was confirmed to head the Federal Housing Finance Agency in December. He is scheduled to resign from the House next week. No date for a Special has been set yet.

In the Senate, 7 have announced they will not seek reelection. Two Republicans and Five Democrats

GOP
1. GA- Saxby Chambliss
2. NE- Mike Johans

Dems
1. IA- Tom Harkin
2. MI- Carl Levin
*3. MT- Max Baucus
4. SD- Tim Johnson
5. WV- Jay Rockefeller

Baucus has been named as an Ambassador to China by Obama, the seat will become vacant at Confirmation, current Governor Steve Bullock (who is a Democrat) will appoint a successor to fill the rest of the term. It is unknown whether it will simply be placeholder or someone who will run again.

"CA-45 John BT Campell III- retiring"

This appears to be good news. I think that he is my current Congressman and isn't (or wasn't) he a birther?

I have added the margins of the 2012 President race for the districts below sin order to get a sense of how competitive some of these districts might be (or will not be in many cases).

I have bolded the districts currently held by Republicans that were won by Obama, or districts held by Republicans in which Romney won by 5 points or less. Same is true for the districts currently held by Democrats, as I have bolded those in which Romney won as well as those won by Obama by 5 points or less.

I might not always agree with Smash, but he does know his politics and most of the time can back up what he is posting; Only occasionally does he let his liberal side influence what he posts.

This might be a Democratic blessing in disguise.

It was one of the most expensive races in the country.

Democrats could be working to spend money in more winnable(read keepable) seats.

You know, the whole plan for the next 10 years, not just the next 2.

The Matheson seat I am sure is a sure GOP pick up for Mia Love is pretty much hands down the winner there.

Republican Congressman Jim Gerlach in PA (suburban Philly) is retiring. This was previously one of the most Democratic districts held by a Republican Congressman (Obama won it in 08, 58-41 under the old lines), and an open seat under the old lines would have been almost a sure Democratic pick up. However redistricting made it considerably more Republican and is now a marginal district (under the new lines Obama won it in 08, Romney in 12)

PA-06 has been added to the list below

I have bolded the districts currently held by Republicans that were won by Obama, or districts held by Republicans in which Romney won by 5 points or less.
