Maybe the figures you have read, not the ones I have. Heck my father voted for Perot and he was a typical conservative (R).
Of course the thing that did Bush 1 in was him breaking his recorded pledge of no new taxes. Yet he did the right and pragmatic thing for the counties best interest. However (R's), unlike many (D's), are principled and hold people accountable for broken promises.
So even though many have posted numerous video clips of Obama and the Clinton's caught in direct lies to the American people(even wagging their finger at us, or saying we can keep our MD), the (D's) do not hold them accountable.
To them the end justifies the means, and they want someone to win, even if it is someone devoid of integrity.
