The SC primary just ended and Clinton was the projected winner. I was just watching the UNC-UVA game but I just checked my phone for the projected winners. They seem to only give Clinton the projection from exit polls.

Here's a pretty comprehensive explanation from CNN that I've had bookmarked from 2008 ...many of the campaigns are actually tuned to CNN when awaiting results:

How does CNN make election projections?

I know it doesn't reveal the times the projections are wrong but I'd guess they're not wrong many times as they are usually pretty certain or they'd call it "too close to call."
