The carcass of the Republican Party was rotting in the ditch before the first debate.

There was never any hope of the GOP bringing anyone to the election that could help the country out if the mess we find it in.

I don't know if it will be destroyed, however, it sure should be a wake up call to folks who were corrupt and didn't care about the American People.

Trump winning is a result of people coming together and growing more and more sick and tired of being raped financially by people who vowed to pay close attention to the American Needs. Instead, they did what really bad parents do...they enabled illegals and foreigners from other counties, to come here and take advantage of our own laws, and use them against us.

Trump winning shows the establishment, that they've been treating us all wrong...well, it certainly shows them that people are good and mad at the terrible jobs they've been doing. And I believe, basically, those who supported Trump are people like me, who remember this country the way it was. And would like to retain some sembilance of that for our children and grand children.

It took over 50 years for us to get to where we are now....and it might take more than that to get us back, however, I believe we can...not by Trump, but by a whole lot of us sticking together and saying, "WE'RE sick and tired of the lawlessness!"

Will Trump work for us? I don't know...? I will continue to support him, but you can bet, after being betrayed by Obama, I'm going to watch him and his administration like a hawk, if he gets in.

What we have to work for is not a party, but good moral education...for our kids...and to really get tough on all crime...you clean up crime, all else seems to fall in place.

That would result in the GOP as we know it falling apart, and probably eventually being reformed. In that case, Cruz will try to save the party in 2020 by running against President Clinton, claiming that Trump was an aberration and lost because "Donald isn't a conservative".

So it won't be new excuse just another slogan from the past maybe that's the real problem you need some new material... seriously.

Of course, Cruz would be obliterated in the election, and the GOPe, which had finally been forced to make concessions to its base regarding immigration and taxes, would become slightly more tolerant and feel vindicated in its 2012 autopsy report on being more moderate to try and get minorities to come to their side.

Of course, if he isn't the nominee, the GOP will also be destroyed and will lose this election, and possibly the two after that.[/quote]

Actually, you can make a strong argument that Ding Dong Dubya destroyed the GOP. He is the one that left the country far worse off then when he started. Which helped give rise to Obama. Which helped give rise to the tea party. Which led to political delusion. Which led to Trump. Seamless.

Of course it will not ruin the party, but it will wake the party up to start considering ways we can improve the process and get good, electable candidates. We do great in the off year elections: governors, senate, and house. Then comes the presidential years and we seem to fall apart. I know a few things in the platform I would like to see modified. Not that many really pay much attention to the platform, but the "other side" uses it against us in the presidential election. This year alone: we had a golden opportunity to nominate a good candidate: there were 3 or 4 that would have satisfied many, but instead we are going with someone that has horrible approval ratings even in his own party. That should tell us something.

Whether the Republican party is mortally wounded by Trump will become glaringly evident as this election cycle play's out. If the republican down ballot candidates are polling very badly and the Democrats take the senate and substantially narrow the gap in the House, then the smoke from the republican fires will be evident, even before the general election.

Yup. The Republican party was just a tool for Trump.
If the Democratic party had been in such disarray for so long, Trump would have run as a Democrat.

Trump is more observant than he seems. He's wanted a run at the Presidency for a long time, but until this year he simply didn't see how he could drive a wedge into either party. Once the two factions of the GOP quit talking to each other, and cooperating enough to keep functioning, Trump saw his opening and hammered the wedge in early on, and then he's been driving it deeper ever since.

It was not Dubya, all by his lonesome that did the deed.
It was the irresponsible actions of the entire party, steadily undermining any reliable leadership over the last eight years.
They pandered to the dullards and cretins, and let the religious nutcases take over the platform.
It really began to unravel after McCain brought Palin in to cater to the the nitwit vote.

And after Obama won in 2008, the best strategy they could come up with was complete obstruction of everything the White House recommended?
Brilliant.
And where were the Democrats, all this time? Fanning the flames, and pouring gasoline on the embers.

The entire political structure of the nation is collapsing in on itself, while most of the audience cheers it on.
