8 of the next 13 primaries are in closed states. Only registered republicans can vote.

CNBC reports tonight that Trump thus far has lost 80% of the registered republicans (That number sounds high so maybe someone knows if it is accurate and has verification) and his delegate lead is covering up that fact. He's living on democrats turned and independents and some new voters.

When the closed primaries start he may sink.

That was a Republican talking head and wishful thinking. You could tell Chris Matthews wasn't buying it.

Then again - it's really hard to predict much so far.

I think what was meant was 80% of the states that have a closed Primary. Now that isn't really correct since Texas is an open Primay, although unlike other open Primary states if you vote for one party in a Presidential Primary you can't vote for the other party in a Primary in the down ballot races.

With that being said, putting Texas aside, I see what they were trying to state. There were 4 other states with a completely closed Primary or Caucus (Iowa, Nevada, Oklahoma, and Alaska). Trump only won Nevada. All the other states that Trump won were either semi-open or completely open.

With that being said, that doesn't mean Indepdents or Democrats are what is putting Trump over the top. In a bunch of these states, there is no actual registration by Party. Chances are the vast majority voting in the Republican Primary in those states are Republicans, regardless if they are technically a registered Republican or simply consider themselves a Republican, but in a state with no Registration by Party.

What is interesting that these establishment Republicans can have a candidate that can appeal to Independents and even some Democrats but they still don't care.

What is increasingly apparent to many people is that Establishment Republicans do not represent the interests of the majority of their voters and have not for years. They just use them.

For example, they ask for the support of middle class and blue collar voters but after the election they turn around and support illegal aliens and "free trade". They make promises to conservative religious groups during the election and then do nothing to fight for them when they are in office. It goes on and on. It is all about cheap labor and corporate profits.

The Democratic party Establishment is pretty much the same.

Nevada is a closed caucus and he still won. So that just might throw some cold water on their theories.
