Second, people understand that the delegates are only bound in the first vote, it's that they expect the delegates to remain loyal to the candidates that won the delegates. In other words, people want the delegates to represent the voters choice.

I don't think that's too much to ask in an election.
Unfortunately, real life doesn't meet everyone's expectations. If everyone stayed committed to their same candidate, no matter how many times they voted they would obtain the same result, over and over again. That would never work, would it?

Plus, the convention isn't an election. It is a gathering of the delegates to figure out who the nominee will be. So, the delegates must be able to change who they vote for after the first ballot, or it will be a stalemate.

“I said, ‘Why is a guy allowed to run?’” He said. “All he’s doing is just he goes from place to place, and loses, and he keeps on running.”

Mr. Trump added that he told the R.N.C. that the situation was “very unfair.”

“He doesn’t have to run and take my votes,” Mr. Trump said."

Or, this this another one of those things that has higher standards and different rules for everyone else than for Trump?

He needs to get the 1,237 delegates just like every nominee in the past and the veiled threats are just one more reason to hope he doesn't make it.
thank you! I thought about running around the forum to find it, and you beat me to it.
