Think of it in terms of a Texas Hold,em match, where you have two cards in your hand.
Trump just made a very bold bet, and Hillary looks at her cards again and is reminded that she's holding the sex card and the race card, and has to decide if she still wants to play them.
The smart move is to fold them, with no desire to hold them again. This is despite the fact that if dirty tricks are set aside, Hillary can't hold a candle to Rice, not personally or politically, and independents surely trust Rice much more. In other words, she could make no mention of Rice's race or gender, or race or gender ever again this season, but then she has to match Rice personally, and that's a problem.
No really, even the "smart move" would be it's own problem for Hillary. As her predecessor as Secretary of State, Rice gives voters an apples to apples comparison, with Rice having far more accomplishments to show for her tenure, not to mention her job approval. Rice's favorability ratings remained high even as Bush and Cheney's numbers were in freefall at the end of their term. Clinton has always been questionable at best.
Of course Hillary is not noted for her smart moves.
Perhaps Hillary holds her cards and chases the rabbit, and makes a fool of herself in the process.
Wouldn't it be ironic for Hillary to come out and claim that Rice was chosen only for her race and gender? After a career of supporting affirmative action? That would be a hoot! How could she touch this with a 20 foot pole?
What about you? What do you think would come of this?
I personally hope he does chose Rice, but not for the reasons I mentioned. In Hillary's words, Rice needs no tour of the White House when she gets there, and she nicely fits Trump's desire to balance the ticket with someone with political, and namely foreign policy, experience.
Condi would be a good choice, but not a great choice. I still think McCain would be a great, Biden-like choice. I don't know if the two can stand each other though.
The chances of Trump having Rice as his VP are less than zero. For many reasons. "That I can tell you!"
Sources say she's on his short list, and Trump responded favorably to the suggestion at a recent rally. She's not in that position because the two haven't had a conversation about it, I guarantee that much.
When asked by reporters in 2008 about the possibility of being McCain's VP, she said she'd accept if asked. And turning it down is just not something that is done.
Honestly, I'll never know why McCain didn't chose Rice over Palin. Rice was infinitely the better choice. Arguably the best choice.

McCain, like Biden, is too old to be in any office of any kind. I doubt either of these two are still in control of 100% of their faculties, and they don't deserve to make any decisions that impact people's lives.
If there is a minimum age for president, then there needs to be a maximum age for ALL political positions. If you are old enough to collect Social Security, you're too old to be in politics.
Condi Rice has repeatedly said she does not want to dwell into politics anymore. She would be stupid to even consider being the VP for Drumpf.
