Ailes, in the opinion of many, greatly facilitated the primary campaign of his buddy, Donald Trump.
I don't watch Fox News often, but did it cover the Trump University charges in as much detail as the other news media?
Fox News, if had it been a true conservative network, should have eviscerated Trump after his comments about John McCain as not being a hero because he was captured. See post 169 here:

It's possible, as evidenced in this forum, that Fox News spoon feeds many Trump supporters with their news. The resulting tunnel vision allows Trump to survive such incomprehensible acts as labeling John McCain a non-hero.
Trump's real problem is that Ailes no longer will be ruling Fox News with an iron hand to cover Trump's ass. Trump now will cozy up to Rupert Murdoch, who will run Fox News through the general election, but Murdoch is conscious of the fact that Trump perhaps is the creation of Fox News, and will share the blame and perhaps incur an alienated viewership as Trump is exposed in coming weeks.

Will Murdoch want to risk the credibility of the Fox News money machine as the mainstream Republican Party worries that Trump will lead it into a disastrous general election and intra-party political civil war?
Non-issue? Hardly. The Trump/Ailes buddy relationship may be one of the most significant stories of this Presidential election cycle. Ailes' advice to Trump may not be as effective now that Ailes no longer is in a position to hand-deliver the Fox News PR machine.
