He was my first choice. Obviously, some on the left here will find something to take issue with, but he has a 50/37 approval rating (Source: Public Policy Polling: John Kasich) in Ohio. If the GOP was playing to win, they should've nominated him.

I personally think he would have a very nice size lead over Clinton. Honestly, looking back I think if he and the RNC could do it over again, he would have entered the race a lot earlier, and more of the party would have gotten behind him. By the time he entered, like 17 other people were in the race months ahead of him, and donors had already put out tons of money already. Having said that, he has a lot of skeletons in his closet as well (Lehman Bros is one) that could have been used against him, so it's hard to say. But in spite of that, I think with all the troubles Hillary is facing and being a popular governor in a swing state, I would have liked his chances.

Why bother indulging in alternate reality? Would, coulda, shoulda doesn't ever change anything, so it don't count for squat.

Trump was nominated in a conservative fever that has yet to abate. That's the reality of it.

He had a +7.4 point RCP average lead over Hillary Clinton up until he dropped out.

RealClearPolitics - Election 2016 - General Election: Kasich vs. Clinton

Not only that, but he beat her in the last 18 straight polls, yes 18 straight polls. When was the last time a major GOP polled so comprehensively over a presumptive democrat nominee? The 80s?

Sure you can argue Clintons with attack ads would have got those numbers down, but lets be clear here, he would have had a really great shot of winning. He's boring, but so is Hillary, and in a boring vs boring election, that would resulted in low turnout which undoubtedly favors the Republicans, since he wasn't offensive to minorities/gays.

Also baring one PPP poll, he was absolutely trouncing her in Ohio (you know that's a major swing state?).

RealClearPolitics - Election 2016 - Ohio: Kasich vs. Clinton

But if you presented this to Trump supporters they would say the polls are bogus, rigged so to trick people into voting Kasich so they would ignore the really great candidate - Trump (or something like that).

There's no way to know how another candidate would play out over 4 or 5 months. Way too many variables.

Yeah, well he sucked with GOP voters, but that's why they'll never ever white house with their fruitloop candidates.

Kasich never got out of the starting gate. It is just hard to imagine him in the General Election but it would have made life a lot more tranquil for the Hillary followers.

Well its been pretty consistent with regards to Trump.

Losing to Clinton last winter, losing in the spring, losing in the summer, probably losing in the fall.
