Cognitive Dissonance Theory | Simply Psychology

Quote:
In his 1957 book A Theory of Cognitive Dissonance, Festinger offers one example of how an individual might deal with dissonance related to a health behavior. Individuals who smoke might continue to do so, even though they know it is bad for their health. Why would someone continue engaging in behavior they know is unhealthy? According to Festinger, a person might decide that they value smoking more than his or her health, deeming the behavior "worth it" in terms of risks versus rewards.

Another way to deal with this dissonance is to minimize the potential drawbacks. The smoker might convince himself that the negative health effects have been overstated.
Likewise, a Trump supporter who sees polls showing his candidate getting clobbered will dismiss the polls as not valid.

And yet, somehow, you've managed to convince yourself in the face of all the evidence to the contrary that it's Clinton - not Trump - who wants to avoid the debates.
True, Trump would prefer to avoid any confrontation with Hillary, because he is afraid he will not be able to restrain himself, and it will do him more harm than good. He has a lot of justified ammunition against her, and if Trump starts he will not know to put boundaries. I hope he can.

I wished Hillary would stop shouting and screaming during her speeches, I am getting allergic to her, and she might go into a fit - she had a couple!

She IMO is not well, no way she stands for hours.
I know you won't read this link, but there are some very salient points.

If you didn't notice, the poor health meme isn't working. You might try and fly another Hail Mary pass.

I guess that Trump supporters are fed up of these constant, irrelevant polls and abstain to vote in these polls.
That's the only reason Clinton gained some points. Trump for 2016 !

You all keep going back to Trump as starting this and that is not the case.

So, stop blaming Trump for making up stuff. Geesh, anyone can see the issues if they have ever seen anyone in poor health.

I cannot believe that anyone that looks at her doesn't turn to stone, I mean, can't tell that she is gravely ill without being told.

Hillary is chomping on the bit right now.
There's nothing she wants more than a debate or two, and debating is her home field; she's been doing it all her life.

If she has a broken foot, she will show up with a cast on it and eat Trumps lunch. If she falls down, she will limp into the debate on crutches and eat his lunch. If she blacks out halfway through, she will snap out of it and eat his lunch.

We all know she's good for 11 straight hours of very hard discussion. She did it earlier this year, and didn't break a sweat while nailing the lid down on the Benghazi Commission's coffin.

Right now, she's preparing. Right now, Trump is engaging in another twitter fight while eating a couple of junkburgers.

Anyone that thinks Hillary will be a no-show is delusional. Debating is never an option for Hillary. Thinking bad health will prevent her from showing up is simply crazy. She will be there, rested, refreshed and all fired up.
