I really, really can not see how things today are not 100% better than they were in 2008. And yet people are still complaining ! 8 years ago, I worked for a company that had a division that repossessed boats, small boats and yachts. They had so many boats they had repossessed that they had no where to keep them all. Now, people are once again buying boats and fixing up their boats. That is my barometer, people DO NOT spend money on toys when things are bad, but today they are spending money on them like there is no tomorrow.
Don
I can see your point here. However I've been around just long enough to have seen this scenario play out in the past non incumbent POTUS races. Things can be manipulated, as easily as the difference between the u-3 and u-6 unemployment numbers are manipulated. Gas prices, "consumer confidence", etc., are all manipulated just before an election, by the powers that be. It's just a part of the sales package to get a favorable outcome for their side.
Sometimes people spend like there is no tomorrow, because they actually think that may be the case. At least in the short term. "I'd better get it now, because we're in for a rough four to eight years".......That is the mentality of buying on time, after all, right? For those with the cash, they probably don't care one way or the other.
Sadly that is the case if the turd sandwich, OR the giant douche is elected this year. And we all know one of them will be.
SW FL has attracted plenty of folks with "the cash" as of late, taking advantage of the depressed prices (in relation to the rest of the country)in this area that was hit really, really hard in '08, and particularly '09 was very dark around here.
Things are still pretty rough in other places. They'd be even rougher if the gubmint wasn't around to hand out free stuff to keep a lid on things. But that cant go on forever. At some point we have to start to grow an economy, and get people working again, and have a productive society. Or, simply acquiesce to being slaves. We're at that turning point. Wanna be a slave, vote lyin Hillary. Wanna have a chance at maintaining some form of Independence?, vote Egotistical businessman Donny. Not trying to lecture you, just giving my take on clearing the confusion.
People may not understand we are at that "turning point" in such clear terms, but many sense it. There are those that want to go the socialist/communist route because they perceive some value in that to their personal wellbeing. And then there's their opposite number. Both are equally passionate about this election. And nobody on either side is going to sway anybody from the other side to theirs. And then those in the middle, that have some form of confusion over all the ballyhoo going on, because they never pay attention to the greater nuances in the ideologies behind the two sides. Yes a strange election cycle to say the least.
I've been in SW FL since '91, right across the river from ya don. Yes, things are better than they were, but nowhere near as good as they were. I'm sure the same can be said for much of the country, things are better, but not as good as they were. Meaning there's room for improvement.
My point(s) being,
1) This area is an anomaly, as far as most of the rest of the country is concerned. Tons of foreign money comes here to snap up real estate,(the number one draw, all else is ancilliary) and then boats, cars, services, etc, to live the lifestyle here. Using SW FL as an example of the rest of the nation is, well, not the best, or at the least a very skewed "barometer".
2) Much of the perceived "improvement" is just manipulation by the PTB. And will evaporate quickly after the election. Probably why those that recognize that trend are buying like "there is no tomorrow", because in a certain sense, there isn't. It's the very essence of riding a "trend" and is found everywhere from the real estate market, to the stock market, to the casino, and all points in between.
TRUMP 2016
He will make America great again and put an end to the clinton crime family.
Wise up ignorant Democrat voters, it's not to late to be part of making a better America..
sometimes I envision **********s looking like this when you provide them with information
That anger has been there all along, building slowly as the demographics of the country change and our culture moves to less of an all white boy's club to one that is more inclusive of everyone else. It's been kept under the surface because anger and vitriol at those "other" types of people merely because they didn't fit the favored WASP mold was unacceptable in polite society.
Now along comes Donald Trump. He says, to hell with all that. I am your non-PC candidate. Say whatever you want about any group you want, because that's what I'm going to do.
Basically, he gave safe haven to all of those angry white people who are pissed that their most favored status is eroding away. That's why your customer, who is personally doing well, nonetheless sees things as being bad in this country. Despite his personal success, those "others" are still gaining in status and growing in numbers, and he doesn't like it.
That's the core of the "Darkness in America" theme that Trump has tapped into. And those are the people who form Trump's angry core constituency. They've always been there. Trump has just given them a safe place to vent their anger.
Could not agree more. US history is filled with awful things against minorities, and only within the last 50 or so years has that gradually become less and less acceptable. The less acceptable it has become, the angrier some people have gotten. The irony is that white people still have it the best of all. White Americans remain one of the most privileged groups in all of human history, let alone just in the US. Their position really could not be any better in terms of the built-in advantages that they have. Some of them just can't handle the thought that they would ever be anything but at the top of the mountain (regardless of how real the threat to that position really is), and Trump validates all of that fear and frustration, as well as the inevitable discrimination bourne from it.

I'm with you here. This post by Jams14 was perfectly stated. Some of these folks are threatened and cannot see past their unconscious, and sometimes willful, bigotry.
All the talk about the new manager helping keep trump composed and moderate his tone, and somebody lets him get hold of his twitter account, and, he goes off on a rant about a woman who said something bad about him. hmmm.
Wonder if she'll quit in frustration pretty soon? How many times does he have to show his real feelings about women before any women who work for him just give up and leave him to stew in his own... mess?
Insulting people after your campaign manager publicly states you don't insult people doesn't look good.
