Obviously, by your own standard, you must not have read the article.

The issue was and still is did Trump dodge a large tax obligation by managing to manuever losses actually sustained by others to his loss statement? It is not supposed to be possible but it has been done.

One would also believe that Trump withheld his tax returns for rational cause. That would suggest there are things in it he does not want publicly disclosed. A long term loss carry forward could well be such a thing. And there could be others...less than superlative performance in the recession. Or a lack of charitable giving in years with large incomes.

I suspect he will find it impossible to be renominated without the disclosure so we may find out.

Trump was within the law, I realize that is something difficult for those to understand that followed Hillary Clinton, but there are people that still follow the law. Don't like the law? Work to change the law and stop whining.

I think Trump withheld his tax returns to dupe liberals and their media lords, and it worked! So funny! He got ya!

To my mind--
Those two pages prove that in one year--2005 return--Trump declared X amount of money and paid Y amount of income tax and Z amount of Medicare tax...

No mention/proof of HOW that money was earned
What deductions and how much were taken
ANY businesses that the income came from

For all we know this is the last year he paid any income tax--he managed to manipulate any earnings using loss carry forward or other tax code cheats or just withheld income information period--w/o more clean info about tax returns from other years--who knows????

It is certainly possible that Trump himself or Bannon in his manipulation wanted to release those two (fairly innocuous) pages because they are more positive than negative in going against the canard Trump paid NO taxes....
ANd remember ALL THE CRAP coming Trump's way in the past 10 days

Sessions's lying/withholding of info at the confirmation hearing...
Flynn's failure to comply with foreign agent registration requirements
The health care repeal/replace bill
His tweet about Obama wiretapping (in or out of quotes) him at Trump Tower
The abrupt firing of the rest of the Obama era AGs
AND now the blocking of Travel Ban II...

PLUS -- not covered that well in US I think--
Mattis has come out and admitted climate change is a serious threat to the security of nations...which Pruitt in the EPA wants to disavow 100%...

Trump likely sees this release of two out of date tax return pages as a winner, winner, chicken dinner feint to give him some positive news coverage...Bannon is all about "spin" and propaganda...they think manipulating the news equates to winning hearts and minds...
For their base I guess maybe...
But I think many of those who voted for Trump because they were resistant to Clinton are not swayed by this as a big whitewashing of all the bad things going on in Trump's WH...
He is just screwing the pooch royally...
Maybe because they have no real idea of how to govern--but likely because Trump and Bannon don't give a flying F and just want to blow up any rational form of governance...

Just imagine you are shown a photo with a time stamp on it--
In that photo, a man is helping an elderly woman with a walker across the street
Seems very positive and "Good Samaritan"-right???
What you don't see is what happened before and after that photo was taken....
You have no idea of any true relationship between those two people--whether they are related or strangers, long-time friends or short-term enemies...
He could be picking her pocket while helping her or vice versa...

These two pages serve Trump more than any of his critics---
The ones leaked during the campaign from a year when he was married to Marla Maples were not as positive and brough him more negative than positive input...

You see one frame of a film--or even 2 min--you haven't seen the film and couldn't legitimately write a review of the ENTIRE MOVIE based on that small section...
So those two pages are just smokescreen---nothing is clarified except yes--in that one year he did pay tax at rate of 25% on reported income...

You show no understanding of the NYT article so HOW would you know it was wrong as you allege?
I agree.

There are so many threads on this one subject, so the Trump supporters must have been expecting Rachel Maddow to reveal something very damning! Think about it.

Seriously. The only thing that was shown last night is that Trump wrote off a $100 business loss and would have paid only 4% had the AMT been eliminated.

The NYT never reported that Trump didn't pay taxes. The article even used the word "legally" and never accused him of tax evasion. It only explained that such a huge loss, over $900 million, could possibly allow a billionaire to avoid paying taxes for many years.

Republicans have been looking for more ways to save the very wealthy and all the NYT did was point out the tax advantages many of the wealthiest Americans have that aren't unavailable to most working class families.

So paying taxes doesn't equate to contributing to the country ?

Is that because taxes aren't voluntary ?.......Or perhaps because you think contributing to the country only includes volunteering one's time ?

Do tell.

Why, in your opinion, doesn't paying taxes equate to contributing to the country ?

Another poster child for pointing out the Left Stream Media is a poster child of Fake News published for the purpose of discrediting conservatives. The Media continues to have zero credibility.

Default NYT: Trump hasn't paid taxes in almost 20 years (legal, democrat, Republican

In the last 20 years we had three Presidents who did nothing about the various loopholes that the wealthy and corporations use. Two of them were Democrats and one of them was a Republican. We also had both Democratic and Republican Congresses. The problem is most of our politicians are either in on it, or they are afraid to challenge the establishment status quo.

Some people do not like Trump but at least he is still challenging the establishment on "free trade" and cheap foreign labor. He may do something about the pharmaceutical companies and the outrageous rising costs of medicine. That is already more then the Crowned Queen of the Establishment Hillary Clinton was going to do.
