If employers hiring those without the proper paperwork faced significant sanctions -- say freezing of assets until a thorough investigation could be conducted followed by significant penalties, you can bet that illegal immigration would drop to a trickle.

As long as we allow corporations and wealthy people to benefit from their labor, we will have illegal immigration.

It would be much less expensive and a lot more effective than a wall.

All those in Congress who are up in arms about immigration, I dare them to pass a bill sanctioning employers.

Want to bet we'd have much of an immigration problem in six months?

Think the Democrats would go along with this? The 700 mile long wall along the most porous areas of our southern border has already been approved by congress. Walls are a deterrant. Not everyone coming here illegally is seeking work but benefits and birthright citizenship for their kids to. Some are terrorists and criminals and they aren't looking for work either.

So, as an analogy if a bank robber wants you to be his accomplice and you accept only the bank robber is guilty but you are free of any wrong doing?

Donald Trump has railed at politicians for allowing US manufacturing jobs to be moved abroad to China
But 100,000 pairs of shoes bearing his daughter Ivanka's name have been made in Dongguan, China
The Huajian company is now moving production to Africa because labor there is evencheaper
It can employ five Ethiopians at its factory near Addis Ababa for the price of one Chinese worker

Ivanka Trump Chinese shoe factory is now moving to Africa | Daily Mail Online
Trump is campaigning on bringing jobs to America while offshoring jobs to increase profit through lower labor costs is a Trump family business. He can't explain how the huge increases in manufacturing costs bringing those jobs back to America will cripple exports and increase domestic prices hurting retail job, spending more to buy less will hurt you economy. Trump is selling "an idiot guide to the economy" a bit like his Trump university.

Perfect analogy.

Employers are accomplices in illegal immigration, yet face no penalties for their wrong doing.

Without the ability to earn a living, most immigrants would stay home.

Currently, terrorists and criminals are mixed in with those who are employed. Eliminate the employment part, and voila, it would be easier to pick out the illegal immigrants who terrorists and criminals.

This leaves birthright citizenship. Last I read, there was a booming business in wealthy Asians coming here to have their babies. So change the anchor baby law. That would work a lot better than patrolling a 2,000 mile wall along the Mexico-U.S. border.

Its been that way for a long time.

I'm amazed that the media and Hillary's VP choice get away with blatant falsehoods and misrepresenting Trump's statements for so long.

Case in point, I keep hearing the media and Hillary's VP accuse Trump of calling all Mexicans "rapists". And the gullible, low-info types open up and swallow this lie without even chewing on it.

...in Tuesday night’s vice presidential debate, while trying to attack Trump’s detailed immigration policy proposals, Virginia Senator Tim Kaine again claimed that Donald Trump and Mike Pence said “all Mexicans are bad.” Fact Check: FALSE. These words have never been uttered by either the Republican presidential nominee or vice presidential nominee. Again, Trump specifically criticized the rampant criminal activities committed by illegal aliens coming across the U.S.-Mexico border, many of whom are Mexican nationals.

Uh, no.

One just has to use Trump's words - and run tape.

In any case, Trump's unfavorables are sky high with Latinos/Hispanics. And that includes even those who are inclined to vote Republican, e.g. Cuban Americans. They're not too crazy about him (and the Cuban American vote has been trending away from GOP with the younger generation of C-As).

Um, Trump called Mexicans rapists. His literal words are "They're rapists". Can't get clearer than that.

And not only did he say such awful things, he said these words in his campaign kickoff! This is basically the whole point of his campaign- demonizing minorities and foreigners. "Build a wall", "Ban Muslims", etc.

What exactly are you arguing? Was that a secretive Trump stunt double really saying these hateful words? The real Trump is being kept frozen beneath Trump Tower?

Coal is declining because natural gas is cheaper, cleaner, more efficient and safer to extract. Obama had very little to do with it.

Republicans are always promising something they won't deliver. They are not interested in the working class. They are determined to eliminate the regulations on corporations, they want to eliminate the minimum wage. (Let them fight for the jobs and pay them as low a salary as they will take) Read their platform it's on line. The income tax adjustments will only favor the wealthy. Don't let them fool you... Do some reading and you will see. Don't listen to Faux snooze if you want non partisan news.
