I did a write in, but I did so because I found that both major part candidates did not meet what I envision a President to be. I also didn't like Stein or Johnson. Illegal immigration is an issue I care about.
I viewed Trump as an outsider who hijacked the more vulnerable wing of the establishment party, so something like a third party, especially in view of how many so-called republicans repudiated him.
The Libertarians are a big disappointment, ridiculously insisting on the most impractical aspects of their ideology. They would gain much more traction with a pragmatic approach.
If the so-called republicans had nominated a McCain or Romney type, I might have searched for a third party candidate other than the Libertarian, written in, or left blank.
As it was, Trump was the third-party candidate and it worked.
I voted Johnson. I knew he wasn't going to win but I simply did not feel I could morally vote for either Clinton or Trump. Plus, I wanted to send a message to both parties that I was unhappy with their choices and had hoped Johnson would tip the magic 5% to get official federal support for a third party in the next election.

1. Because I do have more of a Libertarian perspective
2. Because I refused to vote in another "dynasty" after having the Bush dynasty, no more of that, ever, regardless of party
3. Because Hillary is not someone I trust, and she gave us plenty of extreme examples as to why that is a valid concern
4. Because Trump...is Trump
5. Because we need more diverse opinions and voices in the mix
6. Because I was really hoping to see Johnson get the 5% popular vote required for Federal Funding in 2020
7. Because my state is as Blue as a truckload of blueberries being driven by a family of Smurfs, so my vote means nothing
8. Because I don't believe in voting against something (ie. Never Trump, Never Clinton) but for something instead
9. Because although Johnson isn't a pure Libertarian, I believe his mix of Social Liberalism and Fiscal Conservatism helps to balance out the incredibly extreme views on bot the D and R sides
10. Because he was significantly younger than the other two major candidates, and I was bothered by how old and out of touch they seem
11. Johnson had a unique set of experiences that included governing a state that had serious issues with immigration, AND he managed a very successful construction business within that environment
12. He seems like he is about 50x more honest than just about every other politician I've ever seen
I didn't this time because I was part of the Michael Moore FU brigade. But normally when I did was to bring an outside perspective to the 2 party system
Not voting is a form of voting also. It is as effective as voting third party according to the recent record.
I always wanted to vote but never saw a reason or a candidate I wanted to vote for until this election.
Sorry but I don't necessarily agree, not voting is a sign of apathy, and that emboldens the establishment to continue doing as they may. So a vote for your grandmother is a vote that sends a message of trust, not voting sends no message.
I voted Johnson. I didn't want Clinton to win, I hate that Trump won, I saw no winning option. I really wanted that 5% threshold to be met and it wasn't.
Clintons insinuation of war against Russia in the debate was enough for me to go third party. I have no interest in war over her emails. I've had enough of her terrible tactics, decisions, and inability to know what to write down and what to say verbally.
