View Poll Results: Does Clinton's Popular Vote Victory Reduce Trump's Mandate?

The Republicans can control both houses of Congress with less votes pretty easily.

-The Senate has always been structurally advantageous to them. California gets 2 seats, just like Wyoming. All the empty great plains states get disproportionate representation, so even though the cumulative number of votes Republicans get is usually much lower, they can easily hold a majority.

-The House is severely gerrymandered. Republicans have permanent majorities in the general assemblies of WI, MI, PA, OH, NC, and FL thanks to extreme gerrymandering, and they use that to create extremely gerrymandered districts for the House as well. They can have a permanent majority of seats no matter how many less votes they get, and they got less votes in 2012 and 2014 and kept a majority of seats. In NC for instance, Republicans won 9 of the 13 seats with a minority of votes in 2012. And Boehner claimed it was a 'mandate' that same year. It's sheer hypocrisy.

Fact of the matter is Republicans are the party of hypocrites, of power hungry fascist and totalitarians... they crave absolute power and despise democracy, and fight life-and-death for power at every turn. They have sought to twist the American system to create a one party government like Russia or China, and they've succeeded. Democrats were too passive and just let it happen. They let Republicans walk all over them. Reminder that with a minority in the Senate for much of Obama's term, Republicans obstructed nearly everything he wanted to do. They set out to claim he had no mandate (despite winning by 8 points nationally in 2008). Now they're turning around and saying Trump has a mandate, despite his failure to win the popular vote. Despite having the lowest approval ratings of any president entering office.

Well, that's nice.

Nope. We have 50 state elections and 1 district election. There is no national federal election.

Hillary got her pantsuit beaten off her here. How someone voted in South Central Los Angeles means absolutely nothing to the residents of this state.

Keep telling yourself that Trump's big loss in votes (now approaching 2 million) is meaningless. Trumplings need to have some degree of denial, after all.

Yes, he's got the white House.

Looks like it'll be a fun four years.

Let's see how this plays out.

It is meaningless ... what proof of identity is required in California, Oregon & Washington to vote ? Is word of mouth OK ?

If Podesta was smart, he would've recruited about a half million illegals from western states to move to the Rust Belt and vote for Hildebeest.

It will be an interesting ride. The Right won a big and important victory. And it has changed the course of the society for a decade at least.

But it is not an over whelming victory. The right will still be stymied in the Senate and will have to work deals or complain. Simple as that.

And Trump will have to put up with national outrage is he does thinks like kill Medicaid funding or such without some work around. Take 10 million off of insurance and you are going to hear about it.

For 240 years, the Electoral College has cast ballots for the next president. It is not like the process is a secret. Yet, one candidate chooses to take for granted the impenetrable blue wall states. Those states that contain the electoral college votes that have been the deciding electoral votes in several recent presidential contests.

We should reward this failure to campaign strategically? Talk about changing the rules after the result does not suit. That is stuff of the kindergarten sandbox. Bunch of wimps.

We have seen a his meme about denial in the recent past, usually as it related to the great big, bad blue wall. Get a new shtick.

Actually no. Reid foolished used the nuclear option in 2013. Unless otherwise specified in the Constitution, all it takes is a simple majority which the Republicans hold. And Pence is the President of the Senate in case any ties need to be broken.
