Free and or very very low cost college was mentioned by Hiliary, that puts you more toward the progressive camp, granted she wasn't that far left, but when you start talking about free stuff like ol' Bernie, you're moving left.
I'm not being critical either way, just sayin.
Not really. Freeways are not considered "far left".
Tuition free college and trade schools in order for rural Joe Sixpacks to be able to get the training and education they need to compete in the 21st century instead of voting for Trump con men is the right thing to do.
The problem with Hillary is that she didnt have credibility as someone who would be a pro-worker New Deal Democrat like Bernie Sanders who had a 40 years track record of consistency and integrity without being beholden to the big money donor class and special interests.
McCain won Arizona by over 300,000 votes at the same time in his Senate race. It's still fundamentally a red state, but Trump ran a campaign that had little appeal to Hispanics and Mormons, both major constituencies there. The Great Lakes states are much more fertile ground for Democrats in most circumstances, and Trump's coalition there is less solid because it includes more swing voters and fewer strong conservatives than in the Sunbelt.
Arizona also voted to increase the minimum wage to $12 an hour. Progressive policies that help the 99% are generally popular among the constituency there. Its not like people despise the idea of pro-worker policies and prefer puppets of crony capitalists and big money donors. The problem is simply that huge numbers of people get easily distracted with nonsense and vote for stooges of the billionaire class that laugh in their face once in office. But this is gradually changing.

McCain is a legacy. Had it been a new candidate on the R side, Kirkpatrick, who is quite popular in Northern AZ where she is from, might have won

We apparently have differing ideas of what is far left and or progressive.
