I liked the quote, in that link, from political historian Mary Frances Berry of the University of Pennsylvania: "The Democratic Party is seen by ordinary, working people as "caring about the cultural, managerial and professional elite," she said, "not about them."".

Some other nice quotes.

"In counties decimated by trade deals, decades of talking points don't pay the bills,"

"For the party's future, we have to be honest that the jobs being created in the country aren't being created in this part of the country."

Not everyone can live in NYC or San Francisco. What a surprise to Nancy of the nanny state.

I honestly never thought I'd see the day when the GOP managed to split the Union vote like we just saw.

This is great for unions and for blue collar workers in general. It used to be that the union vote was seen as a lost cause by the GOP. They didn't waste their time, money and energy trying to convince the blue collar workers of the Rust Belt that Republicans were worth voting for. This meant that the Democrats could always count on that demographic to vote for them and they didn't even have to try. Well, the Dems got all sidetracked on their causes and stopped fighting for the white working class. It took an outsider like Trump to cash in on that fact.

Now the Unions and the entire working class demographic is in a much stronger political position. They don't have to be automatic for anybody. They can now force the politicians to earn their vote.

I'd kinda like to see blacks, Jews and others realize the same thing. If candidates don't have to earn your vote, they also don't have to do anything for you.

We'll see how the Democrats approach winning them back.
