It is great that New York Wall street and media, DC, Hollywood LA, Silicon Valley Bay, basically have zero impact on the election and the hillbillies of Kentucky and West Virginia do....it is a very beautiful thing.
So the take-away is that votes in California and New York don't count?
If you're a conservative they don't. Which is why few conservatives bother to vote in those states. Hence the reason those states lean so far left at the polls. They're essentially "voting unopposed".

That's a pretty weak whine. It's like saying that the libs in Kansas or Kentucky don't show up because numerically they know we can't win. I seldom win, but haven't missed an election since 1966, including an absentee vote from Yankee Station in 1972.
If that's the case, they aren't that firm in their beliefs to begin with.

That's my reaction.
I'm a liberal, and I've lived in very conservative areas and now live in a very liberal one. The fact is that I was MORE motivated to vote when I lived in a conservative area - where I live now, I'm really not worried that if I don't vote some right-winger is going to win!
I think the attitude of "my candidate won't win anyway, what's the point" is very childish. If you only vote when you think you are sure to be on the winning side - well, who needs you? Showing up when things don't look like they're going your way is what really matters.

How is that different from being a liberal in Alabama, etc?
Sounds like a great argument to do away with the EC to me and go with 'one person, one vote".

Word. Well, really only about 80,000 in 3 swing states swung the election to Trump.
Wow - if you do not count CA and NY, Trump was ahead by 3 million in popular vote. Meanwhile, those two states put HRC ahead by 2.8 million! I guess the electoral college really does its job.
So take away the 2 most important and populated States in the country, and Trump magically wins the popular vote. That's some profound logic you've got there.
Get rid of Red States and Clinton would have won by a landslide. See how that works?
No, not at all. They do count. Whomever wins those states is allocated those electoral votes. Those states count but do not have the ability to decide the election by themselves (I am from NY)..
I am from Ct, working in NYC, and delighted the Acela Belt plus West Coast is not enough to hit 270.
We need 2 parties to care about flyover country again. The GOP did in 2016, and was rewarded properly for it.
