Wrong. I'm comfortable with standing up for the working class. I believe manufacturing and coal production are both occupations that merit respect. I love the fact we have a POTUS who also finds them admirable, and does not, in liberal knee jerk way, applaud trade deals unconditionally.
I do abhor the 21st century Dumbocratic party. 40-50 years ago, the Democrats were a sane, mainstream party who did not practice identity politics. Not anymore.
And 40-50 years ago, there was a rational Republican Party. They wouldn't recognize the current GOP.
Sorry but most of the population growth happening in the South are not from people who embrace your ideology. The problem is not enough Dems are voting. The Dems have a turnout problem.
2016 turnout for Democrats was an all time record for all US elections (even beating Obama). If you need to break turnout records to have a high enough turnout, you have problems.
How so? At least half of the Democratic base is white.
Do you need to be reminded about Sally Boynton Brown's or Keith Ellison's speeches to try to win the DNC chair positions? Now, Perez did win, but he has been under siege in his own party since then for being too corporate and not strong enough on identity issues.
Those are regions that are quite pro 2nd Amendment rights, and less supportive of abortion 2017 style w/o restrictions as opposed to the customary idea, at creation of Roe v Wade, of it being quite limited in terms of conditions that permitted it.
It is hardly surprising that as the Rad Left took over the DNC, Congress went majority GOP.
Democrats are probably not winning the more conservative areas regardless.
But I think the big picture about the relative successes of Republicans vs. Democrats is fairly complex and could change pretty quickly.
Why should the Democrats "go to the center" when the Republicans are no where near the center?
No matter what, the urban coastal areas will always be far left. Everywhere else is moderate liberal or conservative, or has voters who are not affiliated with a political party. They vote based on a candidate that represents them, or issues that affects them.
