Any successful Republican in California will have to be a RINO by definition. Just like any successful Democrat in Texas will have to be a DINO by definition.
Running a Ted Cruz in California makes as much sense as running a Kamala Harris in Texas.

Even fiscal catastrophe won't elect a conservative in California. The only thing that would, would be Jefferson splitting off, and then you'd have solid red rule in a part of what is now California.
I'm simply painting the most realistic picture of reality in CA. David Hadley has as much chance of winning the Governors seat as Ted Cruz. The moderate dems you think will change things in California also put Kamala Harris into office. That is to say, moderate dems and extreme left dems pretty much vote lockstep and have done so for the past 17 years (at least when it comes to the assembly and senate).

A RINO governor does nothing for the state. You had this with Governor Schwarzenegger. How did that work out? What happened when he tried to fight the Unions with his special election? That's right, 0-8 horrible loss, and Arnold stayed moderate left the rest of his tenure until MoonBeam came along.

The only way California changes at this point is via the financial collapse method which is currently running its course in Illinois. Illinois is slowly becoming more purple, but that took near bankruptcy to finally snap voters out of their zombie minds from voting Democrat and putting Bruce Rauner into office.

The truth is Gavin Newsom is going to win the California governor's office by a landslide, think 30 points. With Kevin De Leon at his side, both of these idiots will continue to run California into the ground. Look at free education, healthcare, and single payer for illegals. Look at increasing pension burdens. Expect increasing tax burdens, and more small business flight. Increasing crime.

This is the reality of blue state (Democrat) politics.

That actually makes sense.

He would still get man handled by the Assembly/Senate, and with them having a super majority, he would be a useless figure head.

I'm trying to figure out where John Chiang fits in. He's been Controller and Treasurer, so at least he understands the finances. I think Gavin Newsom would be a disaster.

who cares about finances when your allies have super majority? they can always raise tax or borrow money just like what they just did to fund the short fall in Calpers

Actually they were the folks who supported Loretta Sanchez.

They are outnumbered by the crazy left Dems but the right Republican could get their support - and could get elected with their support - just as they supported Arnold.

If you really think that a "RINO" would be no different than a left wing Dem you deserve a left wing Dem.

Loretta Sanchez, a moderate Dem, got some support in OC, but far too little elsewhere.

Or give the red counties that went for Trump in Northern California to Nevada, and give Clark County (in Nevada) to California. Sound like a fair trade?
