Personality in politics is actually a huge factor in their electibility.
One of the reasons why Trump supporters love him is because of his a$$hole-ish sort of attitude and personality of "saying what he means."
The article was pretty clear on the fact that Moulton has a different perspective of where the Democratic Party should be going in the future. He is not supportive of the older generation - something has has been an issue for the Democrats for a while now. The reason why Obama was successful in his run was because of his supposed "new energy" and him taking the party in a "new direction" that was partly related to his blackness and the other part being related to him being a newbie and not someone who was knee deep into DNC politics and positions.
Many liberals (and I know a lot of them) were disappointed in Obama in regards to him softening his more liberal stances once he was in office - especially the fact that he didn't go after Wall Street executives who caused our Recession and so many people to lose jobs and homes in 2007-2009.
Moulton in this article, like other younger Democrats wants a fresh party and wants the older Dems to start stepping down. He and others in the party - like the new young lady in NY who recently beat a Dem in a primary in the city - they don't like Nancy Pelosi, they don't like Hillary Clinton and many others.
This guy speaks to the younger wing of the Dems. They are trying to take over. If he runs, he'll get a lot of support and the fact that Trump had absolutely 0 experience in government prior to his run means that the GOP cannot use that as a factor against Moulton. Moulton also has military experience and so understand more about foreign allies/relations and the consequences of failed diplomacy than Trump can or does.
He's also a white man - so the conservatives can't play on the "identity" politics factor for him like they did for Hillary in regards to her blaming things on her being a woman. Moulton would actually be a great, energizing sort of candidate for the left. He is basically a likeable Trump (who's not an a$$hole!) lol.
