How do my fellow Republicans feel about Manchin winning WV?
He was ALWAYS winning West Virginia. I live here and I don't know anyone here who thought Manchin was going to lose.He was a very popular governor and although he hasn't been nearly as popular as a senator his opponent wasn't any superstar either.
Up until 4 years ago democrats controlled nearly everything here and have since the civil war.We don't have any known, popular republicans in the state since there haven't been many ever elected to statewide office. We've had two republican governors, one who was elected twice many years apart, in 50 years. The current governor was elected as a democrat and then switched parties,so he doesn't count.Four years ago we elected our first republican senator in about 50 years. There are still roughly two registered democrats to every republican.
West Virginia may often go for Republican presidential candidates but its still an uphill battle for anything else statewide. It is getting more republican, all the US House seats are now republican but its still a battle.
GOP can't get killed in CA. You can't get killed when you've been dead for a long time in a state like CA.
Won't be any surprises in Oregon either. In Washington - I have hopes that one House seat will flip from R to D. But that's a personal hope, not one that is predicted.
We live in the same place. You’re really reading this wrong. Once again personalities was the issue in these races and not the politics. For Texas, one only needs to look at how Abbott easily won. Cruz’s is due isn’t his politics, it’s his personality. Same for Arrington.
Good point.
But District 1 went full on red with Sanford -- even after all he did.
Arrington seems to be a better person -- marginally -- than Sanford. And I believe that Colbert Bush was just as 'charming', AND moderate as Cunningham. Both Democratic candidates were very clear they did not fall into line with everything that their party was supporting.
That makes 3 now for the GOP FOR A TOTAL OF 54. That takes the wind out of Romney's sail.
