Disagree.

While that is impressive, there should be some sort of popularity factor, too, judged by opinion polling. I like the current standard.

Hey hey! Wanted to clarify not the individual Party debates but the Presidential debates.

I feel popularity of a Candidate is skewed though. There rarely is a 3rd Party Candidate that is on 48 or more Ballots. Think that should be the only requirement.

That's fair, but I still think that there should be more than just ballot access. While ballot access in 48 states is not small feat, its much more achievable generally than a strong showing of popular support via opinion polls. Like, I don't believe that Jill Stein (on the ballot in 48 states/DC) or Gary Johnson (49 states/DC) earned their way onto the debate stage.

I would disagree. I feel that their numbers were low due to not having debate access. Also think rank choice voting should be adopted Nationally but that is a whole other discussion thread. Another whole discussion thread is that money to fund a campaign can only come from businesses, individuals, Unions, funding from their specific Party Committee. Don't agree that Federal Money should be used to finance campaigns.

Sure, debate access almost would've certainly helped increase their numbers. My question is whether they would have earned their positions on the debate stage absent sufficient popularity. I would submit not, but can appreciate that you have a different view.

As for federal money being used to finance campaigns, I agree 100%. But I feel that a similar (albeit not perfect) logic applies to the debate stage. Indeed, federal money is used to help poorer candidates (for lack of a better phrase) compete with more well-to-do candidates and their campaigns/political parties. It is used to ensure some level of parity, to allow the poorer candidates a better chance to get their message out to the masses. Getting onto the debate state operates in the same way. I don't have a problem with people taking advantage of the debate stage in that way. I just want them to earn it via way of popularity as judged by polls and/or some other things.

Could add that a Candidate on 48 State Ballots must be with a known Party.

Think for any 3rd Parties to gain popularity Rank Choice Voting would have to occur and for them to start winning Congressional Seats.
