So the democrats and all the gloom and doomers say the middle class is shrinking. They say we are all getting more poor except those evil rich people. They are half right. The middle class is shrinking but we all aren't getting more poor.. we're all actually getting more rich. It's the little secret the liberals and the gloom and doom media don't want you to know. Here are the stats..

According to the US Census Bureau the middle class (defined by people making $35k-$75k annually) shrank by 7.3 percent from 1996 to 2006. This is only half the story that liberals like to cling on to. The number of households earning less than $35k also shrank, by 3%. So if you all can do the math here.. the middle class didn't shrink because people are getting more poor, it shrank because people are making more money. 14.7% more households earned greater than $75k in 2006 than 1996.

It's funny how the gloom and doom media and the liberals love to only tell half the story. It does though seem that people have less buying power, yet inflation has been at historically low levels. So your answer is... drum roll please... we are SPENDING TOO MUCH MONEY!!! It isn't rocket science. Americans have no patience. Everyone wants the American dream today. They don't want to work hard and save for something in the future, they went to borrow and get it now. The problem with this REALITY is it doesn't sell newspapers and the liberals can't blame the government. The problem lies within all of us. The stats show our incomes are rising. The problem is that we are making plenty of money but we are spending way too much of it.

Please turn off your gloom and doom television set and put down your gloom and doom newspaper and turn the page from Clintons and Obamas "everyone is poor and in poverty and our government is to blame" rhetoric and go out and live your lives. Oh and while you're out living your lives... remember to leave your credit cards at home.

Oh it is, if you use CPI as a measurement which neglects to take any items which fluctuate widely in their price into account. It assumes everyone rents instead of owns their home, it is based upon basket goods from 1982 which may be products that were typically purchased in 1982 but not in 2008, and they don't account for government subsidies in their calculation.

This is a good article that recently came out to highlight some of the issues we are seeing with inflation:

The Consumer Price Index may underestimate inflation. - Apr. 3, 2008

Oil and home prices are going up at a rate that isn't natural. A big part of this is speculation. People buying and flipping homes for a quick profit and oil traders buying oil in anticipation of higher prices. Again, it has NOTHING to do with the government.

Are all rich people evil? lol. I think not. Most rich or well off people seem to be those who work hard and put their money to better use than racking up credit card debt for a plasma screen tv.

My boyfriend's dad died last year at the age of 90. He lived through the depression. He and his wife couldn't have children of their own, so they adopted three of them. He was a chiropractor and his wife didn't work. But somehow, with good money management, he was able to buy some real estate and by the time he passed away, the family had quite a bit of money. But this man also gave back to his community. There is a college building in his name. He also was famous in his family for getting an car insurance settlement, using it to fix the car and then giving the insurance company back the difference. His grandmother would wash and reuse ziplock bags.

My point is that the reason most people don't have money is because they have poor money and life management skills. Unfortunately, personal finance was not covered in my home ec courses in grade school, we only learned how to sew and cook. Better education, better financial sense, more personal integrity and the use of birth control for planned parenthood is what our country needs to focus on to get better.

One problem with this analysis is that you are confusing wealth (richness) with income. Just discussing income doesn't explain how the income is produced. Just speaking for myself, my income has risen but both my wife and I have had to take on 2 jobs to get the added income and the added income is necessary to make up the added costs of the expenses. Our wealth has not increased.

Also, one can increase your wealth without having income. That is, by investing gains, etc.

I am not making a statement one way or another on what I think your basic premise is, I just wanted to point out that just discussing income with respect to wealth is an incomplete analysis.
