If you can't win over the black community, then you're dead on arrival when it comes to winning the primary, let along beating Trump. This small town mayor, rife with multiple racially controversial issues while in his leadership role, struggles to gain any traction amongst black people.
It takes time to get well known or trusted everywhere. Sanders had to get known outside the northeast in 2016 and eventually got fairly good minority support, as the only viable not Hillary candidate. It appears he still has some support in the black community, mainly with young blacks, especially men. Perhaps also among college graduates? If Buttigieg gains black support it will probably come from the same sector and perhaps mainly out of Sanders' support.
Sanders did very well with young latinos too last time (compared to Hillary). Buttigieg starts way way behind there too. We'll see what inroqads he can make. Barely 1 month since his formal announcement, at least 9 months to go to first votes.
