Texas Is Bracing for a Blue Wave in 2020. Yes, Texas.

“The tectonic plates shifted in Texas in 2018,” Senator John Cornyn, the powerful Republican who’s facing reelection in 2020 (with just a 37 percent approval rating) said earlier this year. “If Texas turns back to a Democratic state, which it used to be, then we’ll never elect another Republican [president] in my lifetime,” said Cornyn.

2020 might be the year Texas finally goes purple along with Arizona.

Probably, hoards of people from blue states fled to Texas because of high cost of living. It’s not surprising they will vote the same way they did before. I feel bad for Texans.

Although I think Texas is getting more purple, it will not be a blue state for at least another 10-15 years, if it ever does change.

Another year of Trump just might be the catalyst that pushes Texas into the blue column. If Trump manages to squeak by, in the 2020 election, then Texas will surely become a permanent purple-blue state as John Cornyn opines.

The disappointments of the Obama years sent democrats to Trump and now Trump is sending affluent, educated Republicans and drifting democrats back. The candidate will matter of course, but who knows? I don't necessarily agree with Cornyn that a loss in 2020 is the end of Republicans. They still have the opportunity to regain the civility and conservative roots that appeal to a broad range of Texans and Americans in general. The Trump stain may yet wash off.

I'm not too sure about this. The National Dem POTUS candidates are pretty scary so far. Statewide and US Rep Dem candidates seem to be more moderate, so they usually get my vote. I did vote Dem POTUS consistently until 2012. I voted Libertarian in 2012 as a protest to Obamacare and in 2016 in opposition to HRC's open borders for refugees and illegals and continuation of the onerous Obamacare. Of course, the Texas vote didn't matter anyway. If I absolutely HAD to, I'd vote for the Dem POTUS. The key is to have divided government so that a radical Dem POTUS (or Repub) doesn't get cocky.

Not in 2020... but yes eventually it will be... GA, AZ, NC, and TX are all on the blue eventually path.

They are going through the transformations VA, CO, NV went through in the 2000s

and the same path CA, and NJ went through in the 90s

But even back when we had consistent dominating one party republican rule LINCOLN->HOOVER every president had their own set of priorities/policies so as a country we should be fine.

America will always have 2 parties... and eventually the Republicans will have a Revolution of their own after decades of Democrat Presidents.

FL will eventually be blue too... I think most of the country will continue going blue UNLESS Republicans get up to date on social issues such as abortion rights, same-sex marriage, etc.
