Just sent a message to our state asking how to ensure our mother, who died several months ago, is no longer listed on the voter rolls. I’ve heard that some states are suppose to do this automatically but run into problems if the name spelling isn’t exactly correct or if a number is off for date of birth. Do yoy have any idea how to go about doing this?

Most states get the death certificate from the Dept of Health and remove the voter registration based on that info.

Call the voter registration entity in that particular jurisdiction and ask what they need from you to remove the registration. Maybe it's already removed.

This is Louisiana. There’s an old joke about the reason for above the ground graves, makes it easier for the dead to vote. I’ll know for sure when I go vote next week. This year we’re voting at the same place my mom and dad use to vote. Will be looking for their names when I go to sign by my name. If I see a signature next to their name then I’m calling the police.

For Lousiana:

https://www.nass.org/sites/default/f...inal-dec17.pdf

Each month the state’s Department of Health and Hospitals notifies the Louisiana Secretary of State of any person 16 years of age or older who died in each parish of the state within the preceding calendar month. This information is reported through the statewide voter registration database to the parish registrar who is responsible to challenge and cancel the registration of a deceased voter.

Each quarter... the ERIC Deceased Report, which receives its data from the SSA.

I have often wondered if the SSN of my late daughter is being used improperly. She was 18 when she passed away, approx. 40 years ago. Of course I have no idea what her SSN was so I have no way to check. Not sure why I care, but I do....

why wouldn't you have the SS number of your child?

eh, mine are only almost 18 and 14. we've had smartphones the whole time, and theirs are stored on mine. Still, I've known my wife's SS for 24 years.

Why wonder - get someone to find out.

Well, 40 years ago we didn't have cell phones, and we never thought about SSN fraud. And I rather doubt if I ever asked here what her SSN was. Why would I?
