I was brought up in a family of Baptists (not particularly religious Baptists fortunately) and became a non-believer (or "heathen" as I like to call it) by the age of 12 or 13. But strangely enough I have always been interested in the Bible and have read it straight through with some sections read many times (the books of Job and Ecclesiastes are two of my favorites). And I take particular pleasure in straightening out people who misquote and misuse the Scriptures to push their (usually right wing) political narrative. Here is an exchange I had earlier today on CD:
Poster: "Lefties (and lefty atheists) love to pull up Jesus as a "good liberal" quite often. They seem to forget how he chastised the tax collectors in the temples, and the entire voluntary aspect of charity"
My response: "You sure about that?
Mark 2:16When the teachers of the law who were Pharisees saw him eating with the sinners and tax collectors, they asked his disciples: "Why does he eat with taxcollectors and sinners
You're obviously confusing tax collectors with the money changers.
John 2:13When the Jewish Passover was near, Jesus went up to Jerusalem. John 2:14 In the temple courts Hefound men selling cattle, sheep, and doves, and money changers seated at their tables. John 2:15 So He made a whip out of cords and drove all from the temple courts, both sheep and cattle."
He had to admit his error and then went on with some more right wing blather but I have to admit I enjoyed the exchange. A heathen correcting a bible thumper on the Scriptures.
The Bible is fascinating isn't it. I don't think many here have even read it. And if they did, they sure don't practice it.
I'm not a religious person but I have read the scriptures and I remember the commandment: "Thou shalt have no other gods before me." Some of Trump's religious supporters seem to be ignoring this commandment.
The hypocrisy in religion always turned me off from it, but the religious right support for such an immoral person like Trump confirms my beliefs they would sell out their core beliefs to win politically doesn't surprise me.

Yes, there is a lot of hypocrisy in religion. The religious right have their own agenda now.
In my opinion, by endorsing Biden and Democrats they lost their value. They could have been Republicans who hated Trump. By endorsing Biden, and not supporting a SINGLE Republican, they are basically just Dems at this point.
Perhaps these Republicans realized their party is not their party anymore. The Republican Party has become a party of Tea Baggers, fake Christians and convenient conservatives. The Tea Party has taken over the Republican Party. I predicted it in 2013 (not on City-Data mind you) but as I got to know from the 2013 shutdown, they are disgusting legislative terrorists. The Christians I think are fake since they forgive Trump
for all his sins over the years, yet openly hate gays. The conservatives only complained about government spending when it don't go to their pet projects, corporations and the war machine.
The “Never Trumpers” of the Lincoln Project ...
Patriotism is not dead. I am so very proud of them.
God Bless the Lincoln Project.
When Biden wins the election he should pick George Conway as AG. George is a brilliant legal mind, a talented writer, and has more humanity in his little toe than Trump, Barr, Pompeo, etc., have in their entire bloated carcasses.
