This is a hypothetical that has been discussed at various times, myself included, but no thread devoted to it.

Namely: If President Trump loses his bid to be re-elected, would you Trump supporters be okay with Mr. Trump pardoning his family and associates, then resigning, and then President Pence pardoning Mr. Trump?

(Obviously, all prior to January 20, 2021).

No nonsense responses. For instance, Mr. Trump would not be admitting any guilt in accepting an pardon. The pardon would only be for Federal crimes, but not state crimes.

When Ford assumed the presidency, he gave Mr. Nixon a 'pre-emptive' pardon for all possible crimes prior to the date of the pardon. A Pence pardon would be the same.

This thread is really only for Trump supporters. I know how Biden supporters feel.

Trump couldn't be pardoned without actually being charged. And he couldn't be pardoned for state crimes, so if New York went after him, there is nothing Pence could do.

Yes, I did, but that doesn't change anything. Even if Pence decided to give Trump a blanket pardon a la Ford, a historical look at that incident would seem to be unfavorable to Republicans, who lost significant numbers of seats in Congress during the following midterms. Would the GOP want to risk a repeat just to save Trump, especially if Democrats gain control of the House/Senate and therefore risking an even greater lopsided balance of power?

In any case, let's be honest... we all know what Trump supporters are going to say about this.

Nonsense post, there would be no reason to pardon anyone. Lots of wasted words..

Okay. Good response. Yet, we are talking about a specific hypo. The GOP has no say in this. If Mr. Pence, as President, decides to pardon Mr. Trump, they literally can't stop him from doing so (the Conservatives back in 1976 were NOT happy with Mr. Ford's pardon; note I say 'conservatives', for back in those days, you had conservatives in both parties).

I think Mr Pence, as President, would be committing political suicide in pardoning Mr. Trump. Yet, Mr. Pence's political career is probably dead anyway, if Mr. Trump loses.

Plus: Mr Pence would, in my opinion, be handsomely awarded by Mr. Trump and various corporations. He will do well, financially.

Until he writes a 'tell all' book, at which time he will be even deader than before to the Republicans.

Trump doesn’t need a pardon, and he knows it. What exactly is the crime again? And please don’t spout off obstruction after all the holes we now know in that investigation.

I think that Pence has his own political ambitions so I don't think he would go along with the scheme.

Trump believes his powers are unlimited so he will issue a preemptive pardon for himself, his family, and most of his administration especially DeJoy.

There is NOTHING to argue. You are making up fairy tales with zero reality. Pardon for what, being the best president in your life time? Pure comedy...
