President Trump is not the first election loser to charge that his defeat was due to fraud. But other losing candidates have handled defeat much more skillfully than Trump has — and gone on to further political success. If Trump is serious about running for president again, he should study how another defeated Republican, Richard M. Nixon, responded to losing an election that he thought was stolen.
The election of 1960, pitting Nixon against John F. Kennedy, was the closest contest of the 20th century. Nixon won 49.6 percent of the popular vote; the Democrat edged him out with 49.7 percent. In his definitive history “The Making of the President 1960,” Theodore H. White wrote: “If only 4,500 voters in Illinois and 28,000 voters in Texas changed their minds … those 32,500 votes would have made Richard M. Nixon President of the United States.”
As soon as the results were announced, Republicans began to issue charges of fraud and ballot-box stuffing. They focused on Texas, where Kennedy’s running mate Lyndon B. Johnson had a history of electoral chicanery, and Cook County, Ill., where Chicago Mayor Richard J. Daley’s political machine routinely manipulated the vote in Democrats’ favor.
In contrast, Trump’s continuing battle against this year’s election results seems to be creating precisely the bitterness and the bad global example that Nixon worried about in November 1960. Unless he changes course and follows the Nixon precedent, Trump is likely to take on a label of “sore loser” that will follow him, as Nixon warned, and remove any possibility of a further political career.
Kissinger said that one of the things he liked about Nixon was that he 'never gave up'. I guess Nixon was one calculating dude after all. Too bad Trump cannot see the forest for the trees.

Pick pretty much any former President of either party, all far smarter politicians than Trump.
What you aren't pointing out is that Trump really didn't want to become President in 2016, and he could not care less about being President in 2024. Sure he likes the "winning" part but the only reason he likes the job at all is because it keeps his worshiping fan-base focussed on HIM.
This makes him very different from Nixon. Nixon may have been a crook and he was surely a black-hearted SOB in many respects, but he at least gave lip service to the Republican platform and principles, something that Trump will never do.

Dead on. He will make hundreds of millions at their expense. And his gullible supporters will enjoy every single minute of it. They CELEBRATE the fact that they are being used. Amazing, but true.

Your are exactly right, he wants to be GOP king maker as long as the funds keep pouring in and he retains power. It's about himself, ratings, and $$$$, that's all he gives a crap about. His ego won't allow himself to run again because he's too fragile to suffer a another loss.
