Interesting article from USA Today.

Quote:
From unilateral military actions to warrantless surveillance that were key parts of the basis for Nixon's impending impeachment, the painful fact is that Barack Obama is the president that Nixon always wanted to be. . . .
We appear to have grown weary of the republic and traded it for promises of security from a shining political personality. Somewhere, Nixon must be wondering how it could have been this easy.

good piece, brentwoodgirl. And not from a conservative, but a guy who is left of center.

There are quite a few similarities between RMN and BHO. Both lawyers, both very smart but at sea when it comes to economics. Both Machiavellian and hardball politicos.

I couldn't finish the article because its based on so much misinformation. I don't see anything in the articles of impeachment about Cambodia.

The following is a link to the articles of impeachment for Nixon.

Watergate Articles Of Impeachment

Here is the section that comes closest to the warrantless wiretaps.

Article 2

2 He misused the Federal Bureau of Investigation, the Secret Service, and other executive personnel, in violation or disregard of the constitutional rights of citizens, by directing or authorizing such agencies or personnel to conduct or continue electronic surveillance or other investigations for purposes unrelated to national security, the enforcement of laws, or any other lawful function of his office; he did direct, authorize, or permit the use of information obtained thereby for purposes unrelated to national security, the enforcement of laws, or any other lawful function of his office; and he did direct the concealment of certain records made by the Federal Bureau of Investigation of electronic surveillance.

Notice that the charge was because the investigations were unrelated to national security, enforcement of laws or other lawful functions of his office. Is there any Evidence that the Obama Administration has done the same?

In the right wingers imagination he has already been impeached about 40 times.

Starting with being born in Kenya, no Indonesia, no Hawaii by a British citizen...you know I can't keep up with the every birther conspiracy.

And the Obamunists have reached new levels in using various civil service bureaucracies, the FBI, NSA and the IRS against political opponents.

He not left of center, during the first impeachment trial Turley seemed he seemed slightly to the right but reasonable. Since that time he has become a regular on Fox News carrying the flag of the right wing.

The FISA court is bipartisan, congress just renewed it for another several years. The greatest abuse was the use of the FBI under Hoover to spy on people. But if there has been egregious use of the FISA court then that is up to congress not the president.

The larger issue over the last 20 years has been databases of phone records for US citizens, Guantanamo and the CIA houses overseas. Comparing Nixon to Obama is complete right wing nonsense, Trumps firing of State Department Employees, and FBI Director, DOJ Attorneys and and Inspector Generals is more a cause for concern in addition to the politicization of US Attorney General.

Turley's theory is by no means left of center, if anything Trump reminds me of Nixon with his firings but the OP is from 2013.

The reply 7 years later is as pointless as the original post 7 years ago.

Isn't it time to trot out the old, tired "rent free in their head" thing?

However, Obama needs to realize that although the rent is free, their heads are full of dust and cobwebs after all this time.
