This is more photographic evidence that Bush is a strong, resolute leader with America's best interests foremost in his mind.

It further proves that he's...

1. a brave terrorist fighter
2. opposed to any sort of gay contact
3. is wise in choosing his friends and allies
4. supports our troops, even though his Saudi pals fund the Iraq insurgency
5. big on family values and is a good Christian

I understand you position, but let me interject a consideration.

While I GENERALLY lean to the Left over the Right, I have voted Republican from time to time (not so much recently admittedly). I was turned off by the witch hunt directed at Bill Clinton where Ken Starr spent some $60 MILLION only to come up with the fact that Billy got some "extra" on the side. Good use of taxpayer money that was.

In any event, before you condemn the GOP perminantly consider the following: The truth is, neither the Democrats nor the Republicans have cornered the market on corruption. That's because corruption is not driven by your politics, it's driven by the fact that you are a human being - with all the faults and frailties of a human being. I know that zealots on both sides like to think that somehow THEIR side is intrinsically less corrupt than the other side, but the fact is that's simply NOT true. Politicians on both sides are equally prone to becoming self-serving and corrupt.

True, recently it's the GOP that's had the vast majority of corruption in it's ranks - but that has NOTHING to do with their political views, but rather has EVERYTHING to do with the fact that the GOP had held power (particularly in Congress) for so very long (up until the last election). As a general rule, it's the party in power that becomes corrupt - for the simple reason that there is little to no reason to try and buy the side that has little to no power. Yeah, if you are trying to buy influence you might send a little of your money over to the side of the minority, but the bulk of your efforts to secure influence is naturally going to be directed at those who actually HAVE THE POWER - or (if you are pretty sure a change is coming) to those who WILL have power. This is simply common sense.

So, given that the GOP controlled Congress for so long, they naturally attracted the influence buyers and so became the most corrupt. Again, this has NOTHING to do with political ideology. It has to do with having power. The old saying that "Power corrupts" is very very true. Few politicians are first elected PLANNING to become corrupt. Most of them are probably idealists, but little by little their scruples are chipped away, their ideals eroded. They don't PLAN to become corrupt, it just happens. They bend their standards and ethics a little bit here, and a little bit there, and eventually over time they end up being pretty corrupt. This is not true of all of them of course, but probably quite a few.

The GOP became so corrupt and self-serving because they had power for too long. The rot begins to creep in the moment you take power, and the longer you have power the deeper it festers. You begin to take it for granted that the power is RIGHTFULLY yours and that you will ALWAYS have it and you lose site of what you really believed in. Remember how there was so much focus on the idea of term limits by the Republicans campaigning for Congress back before the Republican Revolution? Somehow, over time, most of those folks magically changed their minds and abandoned the idea after THEY became the encombants. AMAZING isn't it?

So, RIGHT NOW the GOP has had the most corruption - for the simple reason that they were in the position to be corrupted. But from the very moment the Democrats took power two years ago, their rot began. It will take a while of course for it to become a serious problem (and even longer for it to reach the obscene levels the Republicans exhibited) but that day will SURELY come.

And at some point down the road, you will probably become just as disgusted with the Democrats as you are right now with the Republicans. It will take a number of years, but surely that day will come.

I don't believe that ANY party should be in power perminantly - it's not good for the nation as whole and in truth not even good for the party's. They NEED to be kicked out and chastized every so often for their own good, so that they can clean themselves up and go from serving themselves, to serving the American people.

So, don't be so quick to condemn the GOP perminantly. I know it's natural to feel that way right NOW, but someday - when corruption in the Democrats gets really bad - you will rightfully feel otherwise.
And that's the way it SHOULD be.

That's my take anyway.

Ken

Based on your posts, I find it unbelievable that you were ever a life-long republican. Perhaps you mean you were a closet liberal.

A true republican/conservative, no matter how angry at the current admin, would never vote for a candidate with the kind of socialist/pacifist policies and ideas as Obama.

Amen, brother. Ron Paul. I might not like all of his ideas, but at least he wants to decrease the size of the federal government, not increase it with a program larger than Social Security.

My bad. Don't call me sexist. I've just never met a woman with the ability to rationalize.

No problem. If you are married, I hope your wife sees this comment and whips you into shape, as I do my husband on a regular basis.
