Gavin Newsom goes on the air against Ron DeSantis as political rivalry grows

Gavin Newsom and Ron DeSantis aren't just avatars for the different futures of their parties, but also for the separate realities blue and red Americans are living in -- two people of opposing viewpoints looking at the exact same set of facts and coming to vastly different conclusions. They're both governors, rising stars and speculated soon-to-be presidential candidates, building out micro-ideological models in their sunny capitals.

In ever-blue California, Newsom, the son of a state appellate judge, has rebooted from his start as a flashy progressive hero around quieter legislative pushes. Meanwhile, in reddening Florida, there's DeSantis, the son of a Nielsen box salesman, who in public cleaves less to his two Ivy League degrees than to the anti-elitist, reactionary politics that have consumed the GOP.

Newsom now is going on the air against DeSantis in Florida -- with what he says is not the first ad of the 2024, or even the 2028, presidential race -- with the goal of trying to get Democrats to reclaim a sense of collective identity that could enable them to beat Trumpism in the long term.
The democrats could run Jesus Christ in 2024 and he would lose.

ANY DEMOCRAT is going to be tagged with Biden's terrible record. NO SANE PERSON is going to want to have another four years of economic misery, which is what the dems are serving up. High inflation, high energy prices, falling stock and housing markets, open borders, racial division, and supporting sexual deviants- that is the democrat platform.

I definitely think both Newsom and DeSantis will run. They are extreme opposites. I will enthusiastically support DeSantis.

I agree with you in July 2022. But the election is more than 2 years away and a lot can happen. Say the fed aggressively raises interest rates all year. By the end of the year inflation cools, gas prices drop and the economy starts to come back in 2023 from a likely recession this year. As interest rates drop back down, real estate picks up, the stock market rallies to record highs and a whole different attitude about the country unfolds.

Not saying the above will come to pass. In fact I think its unlikely but not at all impossible. But I do see GOP voters doing a victory dance a little too early. Anything can happen between then and now.

This November the Dems get trashed.

The Dems blame Biden (not his crazy Left wing ideas but his ‘communication’ and messaging’ issues)

The Dems instead nominate Gavin Newsom in 2024. And their media applauds wildly.

If the Dems think that DeSantis is a "nutjob", then that just shows how big of a nutjob the DEMS are!

I don't doubt that some, perhaps 30%, of the Dems think that DeSantis is a nutjob, but I have a hard time believing that half or more of the Dems actually think that. If they do, then they're nuttier than I give them credit for.

You see, the problem for the Dems is that they can't come right out and denounce the leftist Crazies in their own party because if they did, the Crazies would split off and vote third-party Socialist which would spell the doom for the Dems.

So, the majority of the Dems are stuck between a rock and a hard spot. They can't compromise with the R's on any reasonable legislation or that would pi$$ off the Crazies on the left of their party. So, it appears that the Dems are going to go down in flames while sticking to their "all or nothing" leftist policies.

I really think that the best solution for the moderate Dems is to switch to the R party and vote for the R candidate whose views they find most appealing/tolerable. If they stick with the leftists Crazies, they'll end up with the right wing of the R party in control. Perhaps they should remember the old saying, "A half-loaf is better than no loaf at all."

Newsom 2024! If he decides to run! That'll be a new generation candidate (born 1967).

You know -- 2020 style fraud. Illegals voting, mail in voting without voter ID, Dominion voting systems that nobody seems to be able to figure out, democratic / blue states stopping vote counts in the middle of the night.

Don't forget the possibility of another 'pandemic'.

That's the wild card, the fly in the ointment, the elephant in the room.

I know.... lefty says 2020 was the 'most secure election in history'.

ROFL
None of what you say has even been proven with evidence. Fox News, Newsmax, and Oann don't count. Even legislators/ sec of states who voted for Trump said its B.S nothing was rigged.

You have no idea what you are talking about. Newsom will easily win California given the political make up of the electorate and his popularity. If you want us to suspend disbelief, could you please annotate that in your posts….it will save everyone a bunch of time.
