In my humblest of opinions it's already too late to walk it back. The damage is done and any attempt to put the toothpaste back in the tube will be seen as a flip-flop to some and disingenuous pandering to others. Their are consequences when your strategy is to go scorched earth without leaving yourself an out should conditions change. One of those consequences is giving your opponent a trove of receipts that will backfire your attempts to change the narrative. Dude went all in on the crazy and now he's going to be paying the price for it. It might have worked when Arizona was ruby, ruby red but that's not the case any longer. Deadman walking.

The problem is the Republicans know you have to pander to that base since they are the ones who vote in the primaries. I am independent and since Arizona is an open primary state, I try to vote more reasonable Republicans but very often to no avail. This year I didn't even bother because nobody was reasonable. To say Robson was the most reasonable candidate says it all.
