"If you have no order and no discipline in terms of party rules, people will be having their primary in the year before the presidential election," [Pelosi] said. "So there has to be some penalty."

Hi mom, what took you so long to speak up? Although maybe she was saying it behind the scenes all along and was ignored.

You know what's interesting is she no doubt knows Hillary personally. As professional politicians and as women, I wonder what they think of each other.

But the democratic committye has already addressed this. Iowa and new hampshire have a laws that state that their primaries have to be held two weeks before any other. That creates a problem in that the primaries have been starting sooner and sooner. It was Iowa and new hampshire that wrotye asking for a penaty for Florida and michigan. But now there is a movemant to have six primaries first on a rotating basis; because candidates were being elimniated by the same few staes. That is a problem that Florida and michigan got tried of and pushed the issue. In the end the committeee said they always thought they couykd come back and seat the deleagtes from both fater the nomineee was selected;but nt they have created a ral problemj. But actually floida and michigan may have gotten exactly waht they wanted. Stop two small staes from eliminating candidates early on evry election. Of course they alkso want to bring this to the convention where more staes will join in their protest.

Texdav -

Yes, clearly the current setup (with the early states having too much input) IS a problem.

I agree with that.

I also think that this whole mess will likely FINALLY bring a resolution to the problem (perhaps with a rotation as you mention).

But the House Speaker has said Democratic superdelegates should not overturn the pledged delegate winner, and has warned of irreparable harm if they do so.
This is interesting. Has she been hearing of uneasy uncommitted SD? Maybe they are starting to believe the media and the clintons that Hill&Bill is the stronger of the two.

Uh yeah, right--that's the likely explanation.

I'm glad Pelosi brought this up. There have been a few posts about pledged delegates switching from Hillary to Obama. Several of us commented on how wrong that felt--I'm sure she feels the same way.

What exactly can she do? What authority does she have?

I have a strong feeling the SDs will go along with Pelosi.
