Anyone have any ideas on which candidate will lower gas prices? McCain seems closer with the oil companies and has taken in more in contributions from oil company executives, but Obama has also taken in a significant amount of $ in contributions from oil company executives. Plus, sometimes I think that tree-hugging environmental types like high gas prices so we'll all stop driving (and just stay home and smoke doobies or something).... So what do you think....who to vote for if lowering gas prices is a high priority?

None. Gas is not going higher. Our dollar is going lower. Neither candidate will fix this mess with their massive budgets.

Anyway, gas is ultra cheap. $4-5 to haul a 2000lb vehicle 15-40 miles with you, your friends and luggage? Can't beat that price!

Obama has come right out for higher gas prices to force exploration of alternative energy. McCain wants to open up drilling, increase supply and lower price of a proven and available energy source.

It's a no-brainer choice if lower prices is the goal.

Neither one, and it's not the government's responsibility, anyway. When did everything become the government's problem to fix? What happened to American ingenuity?

This is a great opportunity to create more fuel-efficient cars AND to develop alternative sources of energy.

Lowering gas prices is just a Band-Aid, and it'll let us continue to ignore the reality that (1) we use way too much oil in this country and (2) we need to move beyond fossil fuels eventually, anyway.

It's not about sitting at home and smoking doobies, whatever that means. It's about making responsible choices and taking the initiative to change things on our own.

Also a limited one that's much more polluting than other sources.

I'm totally with Obama on this one. People want a quick fix so they can keep driving their gas-guzzling tanks everywhere they want. It's time to start making more responsible choices and thinking about the future, when the earth has no more oil to give us.

If we lower our dependence on oil, we won't have to meddle in the affairs of Middle Eastern nations anymore. Besides, why make yourself a powerless slave to whatever price some Saudi oil baron wants to set a barrel of oil at? Domestic drilling is one short-term solution, yes, but it still doesn't get to the root issue -- oil is finite, and it's dirty, and we're using too much of it.

Honestly, some Americans act like you just shot their dog if you tell them they have to conserve a little bit. We don't own the world, we share it. And we need to start acting like it.

You know you belong to WV or KY when you think that a presidential candidate or perhaps a president can do something to lower gas prices.

No one is going to lower gas prices. Oil is a diminishing resource - the best plan going forward is to find new energy sources and conserve what we have left.

Not me....I'm driving a 4 cylinder Accord and Corolla. But gas is still killing me.

I don't think its a coincidence that gas costs almost triple what it cost before we elected oil men into the White House who got us involved in endless war in the middle east.

True but you know inflation and dollar value all adds up to the equation.
