This is a question for republicans, especially those that voted in the primaries.
How did the republican party end up with John McCain as their nominee? I do not know a single republican who is happy with this. They don't like McCain, and will only vote for him to keep Obama out.
So how did this happen? Were the other candidates so horrible that McCain was the best of a truely wretched lot? Was the GOP so sure that Hillary would win the democratic primaries that they wanted someone who they felt could best beat her? Seriously, what the hell happened?

I've wondered the same thing. Other than the people who staunchly defend him on this forum, I haven't met one person who really thinks that he is a great candidate.

I like and respect him as an individual and his service to the country. I didn't vote for him in the primary. There are some things I agree with and some I don't. I would be happy with him as president.

I've said it before; In retrospect, he is the ONLY candidate who can beat either democrat. He WILL pull those indies from the dem, especially after they realize what Obama's tax hikes would do to a struggling economy. McCain's overwhelming foreign policy/military experience will bury Obama. I don't think people will trust a veritable neophyte with the reins as far as the wars go. Most of the polls say they trust McCain more on foreign policy and administering the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan.

So I can only say McCain was meant to be the nominee because he will beat Obama.

McCain is our savior.

McCain is the best thing to happen to the Republican party this year. He is the ONLY Republican who can run on his own merit.

I think thats it.. he's the only candidate that ran that had the ability to raise funds, and actually have had past accomplishments that one can list. May not be happy with the accomplishments, but at least we could list them.

Thumbs down "Republican brand . . . nasty dog food"

It was like a sad circus of dysfunctional candidates [none very appealing]. The anger w/ McCain came from the radio/tv Republicans & the Biblebelt brigand who vowed on the air that they would not vote for McCain.

And yet the weird Republicans on this board continue to ignore that the odds of a McCain victory are extremely low.

McCain is the sacrificial lamb...the Republicans know they will be beat and didn't want to"waste" anyone else...or.. that's the pathetic "best" they have

Nope, thats not it. I am certainly not a bible brigand nor am I Rush Limbaugh and I would not support McCain as president.
And keep chanting your new mantra.....it is not going to be a landslide for Obama. Especially if something 'bad' happens regarding terrorism between now and November.

I heard some talking head say that the RNC is realizing McCain will certainly lose and will switch him out closer to November, due to health concerns or something similar, for a fresh feeling conservative. This would be done in hopes of stealing the Obama 'freshness' that seems to have a viral effect. Though, I don't see how this could really be an effective strategy it is interesting to play out in my mind how it would effect the election.
