Howard Dean Schemes To Shut Down Democratic Convention | LaRouche Political Action Committee (http://www.larouchepac.com/news/2008/06/12/howard-dean-schemes-shut-down-democratic-convention.html - broken link)

Slate -> The Fray -> Best of the Fray

Quote:
Historically losing candidates always have their names put into nomination, give a great speech and then there is a roll call vote.

The presumptive nominee gets the majority and then there may be a call to make it unanimous.
Quote:
"...Other previous nomination battles have still had the roll call votes take place. For example, President Ford narrowly defeated Ronald Reagan in 1976 for the Republican nomination, and there was a roll call vote. Same with Carter vs. Ted Kennedy in 1980 for the Dems., also Democrat Mondale vs. Gary Hart in 1984.
Why wouldn't they have a roll call vote? Are they (Dean,Obama,Soros) afraid that the masses might in fact nominate hillary? Or maybe they don't want the spectacle that a raucous RC vote would highlight.

They want to keep everything hush-hush and pretend that there is unity and love within the bowels of the party.

On the other hand, do they really want to make angry those 18 MILLION voters who voted for Hill&Bill and are expecting this convention to be no different than others - namely that a RC vote is held to give credit to the losing candidate for a hard-fought battle.

I think it would be an absolute hoot if the delegates destroyed the planned obama convention! However, this is PRECISELY why there are superdelegates: to prevent it from happening.

In addition to the anti-war, moveon/code pink nuts, you have an awful lot of clinton supporters that are mad as heck.

I was just perusing some of the websites/blogs. These people are mad, mad, mad at Obama and Dean/DNC.

Can I just say how much I will enjoy watching the DNC convention this year?

How stupid are the dems/libs to keep that fool of an idiot Dean in charge. Talk about doing everything you can to lose the election - he's your guy.

You should hear how people are talking here in Denver. This convention is not going to go off without a hitch! Over 50,000 people from one protest group alone!!!

sanrene you sound like Rush and Hannity with your worked up contrived controversy regarding a party that does not concern you.

Unlike the Republicans, the Democrats are uniting. Primaries are primaries and it finally ended only recently.

However well after it was established that McCain was the GOP's guy, 25-30% of voters still voted for others, not one person who still had a chance, but more than one person - all who had no chance.

One of these people, Ron Paul, has a passionate following and is not going to endorse McCain.

Hillary and Bill endorsed Obama and are supporting him.

Paul won't and is having his own function in the Twin Cities around the time of the GOP convention.

You should be concerned about your own house, not the one down the street.

Just Say No Deal (http://justsaynodeal.com/index2.html - broken link)
NO QUARTER

You better check on that "unity" again. Have you read some of this stuff? How well will it go over with democrat Hillary voters (18 Mil, btw) when she is DENIED a roll call vote (common courtesy for the loser) by Obama and Dean? Why do they want to do that? Are they afraid of what the results might be?

Well - that's better than Obama's record. He lost the last 9 of 16 primaries when his nomination was apparent. Not only did he lose, he got a whooping.

0%.

That's how much of a real issue this is. It was a long primary campaign. The media has its own $ corporate conservative agenda to keep this “unity” story going, but the rest of us have moved on. Sure, some are not there yet, but it’s only been a few weeks. After they are out of primary mode and look at the issues, one does they most always do, vote for the nominee.

As for the convention that's absolutely a non-issue. She'll speak and this is all old news.

There's a big difference, she was seriously campaigning and these were her states from the beginning. He didn't lose these states. They weren't his.
