Iraqis lead final purge of Al-Qaeda - Times Online

Quote:
American and Iraqi forces are driving Al-Qaeda in Iraq out of its last redoubt in the north of the country in the culmination of one of the most spectacular victories of the war on terror.
Can you imagine if he continued his mantra of immediate withdrawal? What a fool he would look like. A losing fool come November.

McCain needs to bludgeon Obama over the head with his poor judgement that would have resulted in a major defeat for the US and Iraq if he got his way.

obama has been back-peddling on the war in iraq. no matter what spin his supporters attempt, he began as an outspoken critic of the war, and misled many to believe he was going to begin immediate withdrawal of troops (if elected). he now is saying something completely different, indicating that he intends for the troops to remain in iraq.

"backtrack obama" has once again flip-flopped on yet another issue. is there no end to how many times this guy is going to back-flip?

This thread makes no sense. If al qaeda are on the verge of defeat, then why should we not begin to withdraw our troops relatively soon?

Or what is your definition now for "winning" the war so they can come home?

al-qaeda makes up about 10 percent of the violence in Iraq. So it only took us 5 years to get them out. Then again May 31, 2005 ... The insurgency in Iraq is "in the last throes," Vice President Dick Cheney says. It's mostly the former Iraqi military that we laid off with no money but were allowed to keep their weapons that we need to worry about.

Plus the country is still the most violent in the world, with the dirtiest water in the world and 70% of the country still can't receive electricity 24 hours a day. But hey, the violence is down so were winning. But we don't keep count of how many innocent people we slaughter so how do we know.

Our soldiers don't slaughter innocent people.[Mod edited content] You should turn your anger on the people who deserve it - the terrorists who tried to start a civil war in Iraq by targeting the innocent of all three sects.

How do you know? We don't keep track. And you think that when we drop bombs and we only kill terrorists? Imagine that in Detroit, NYC, Chicago, LA at the end of the year the police chiefs and mayors said they had no idea of how many people were killed in the city, but that it didn't matter because they were all bad guys. BTW, we started the civil war, their wasn't one before we arrived.

There is no doubt that our soldiers have killed innocent Iraqis. HOWEVER with that said I do not want to imply that is the intention of 99.99999% of any of the people serving there.

Beyond anything listed above lets see....so, a war started for no real justifiable reason and we are making "progress" cleaning up the insurgence of terrorist cells that made their way into Iraq AFTER we overthrew their government?

Sorry it doesnt fly with me. Its like bragging about winning $1000 at the casino when you spent $6000 before you "won" anything.

I never said that, two of my best friends served. I think the military is like any other segment of society, 10% are bad the rest are pretty good. But let's not forget that being in the situation they are in can do strange things to a persons mind. Sadly we had no plan in place for our troops once they overthrew Saddam and we have no plan for those that come back who need help.

i would vote for a martian if he would leave bagdad. nothing like going broke to bring down a great nation. let it not be us. the trouble with arrogance and pride and ego is that don't accept them as payment at the gas pump.

They do not have a definition because they do not want to EVER leave Iraq. But the troops are coming home- like it or not. The people have had it with Iraq and that is Obama's centerpiece issue.
