Some are speculating that Obama has cut the list to 2 candidates: Joe Biden and Evan Bayh. Both of these men would be an excellent choice for President Obama but I think that- by a hair- Bayh might be the better choice. Biden has a tendency to sometimes shoot from the hip while Bayh is more reserved and careful. Biden also has a very long voting record which could be targeted for negative TV ads while Bayh has a shorter and more moderate record.

I don't like those two choices.

I think Bayh would be a good choice for him. Level-headed, moderate, well-liked, well-respected. Could bring in some of the swing vote. Hoosiers love the guy.

If you think it's down to those two I think you may be in for a surprise.

I hear he's thinking of John Kerry - Best way to bring the Edwards taint back into your campaign.

I'm not sure Bayh will help pick up much core Republican support for Obama:

I know the NRA has repeatly given him a terrible rating, so this might hurt bringing over independent voters. Also a very strong separation of church and state, a perfect rating by the Americans for Separation of Church and State (AU). Kind of reinforces the Obama comment about guns and God:

Project Vote Smart - National Rifle Association Ratings

Also voted in favor of allowing minors to cross state lines for abortions.

Consistently has voted against drilling for oil in ANWR.

Has repeatedly voted against photo ID for voting in federal elections.

Has voted in support of federal funding of sanctuary cities, against comprehensive immigration reform and against declaring english the official US Govt language.

If I had to take a guess, it's gonna be Evan Bayh. Biden is too old. He'll be close to 80 in 2012, and won't be a good candidate for presidential contender, which is basically what a VP is. Plus, Bayh brings exectuive experience as former Indiana governor and is just the right age.

or......

...a complete surprise choice that nobody has ever been considering, like a CEO of some major corporation or a foreign policy/defense/economic wonk like Robert Rubin or Richard Holbrooke.

This would explain the highly unusual amount of secrecy in the Obama VP search. Normally, we would have been "leaked" a shortlist of potential running mates by now from the campaign itself. I'm actually leaning toward a surprise choice that is going to blow everybody away.

I am curious about specualtion based on what is being heard as the Obama campaign has been very good at saying nothing. The McCain camp is exactly screaming out who their choice will be and every appearance with a candidate and a possibility is considered/reported as a clue.

Hey, hey, hey. Biden is only 65 now. No way will he be close to 80 in 4 years.
